... As an NFL prospect, Barrett was a great college football team leader, which is why he is the only Buckeye to be named team captain for three years. He has decent size, excellent athleticism, outstanding instincts and he can run, pass and he can find ways to inspire his offense and frustrate the opposing defense. But success in college does not necessarily translate to success in the unforgiving world of the NFL. Just ask Tim Tiebow or the many other college superstars who litter history but did not make it in the NFL. It won't be surprising to see some team take a shot at Barrett sooner than expected and it won't be surprising if he is not drafted at all. And that is probably the most apt overview of this great college football leader. Whatever happens with Barret going forward will not be a surprise. BACKGROUND Barrett not only is the Ohio State record holder for passing yards, but he also ranks seventh in school history in rushing yards, trailing only Archie Griffin, Ezekiel Elliott, Eddie George, Tim Spencer, Chris Wells and Braxton Miller... Barrett enrolled at Ohio State in January 2013 and spent the spring season working out, but not running, while recovering from his 2012 knee surgery. He was considered one of the nation's premier dual threat quarterbacks in the Class of 2013, although his senior season came to an early end with a knee injury in the fifth game of the season. He was rated as the No. 11 prospect in talent-rich Texas (247Sports) and a consensus four-star cornerback (ESPN, Rivals, Scout, 247Sports).

strengths

Rhythm passer who can deliver accurate passes to all levels of the field when hot... Possesses plenty of arm strength for any NFL offense, sending the ball 30+ yards with a simple flick of the wrist and generating serious RPMs when he steps into his throws and wants to put it on a line. Throws a pretty deep ball, lofting it with plenty of trajectory to let Ohio State's speedy pass-catchers time to run under them... Patient in the pocket, showing composure to go through his progressions before tucking the ball and running, where he is a legitimate weapon. A gifted runner, who anticipates and spins off of would-be tackles as often as he eludes them or overpowers them, showing both wiggle, as well as pad level and leg drive to consistently fall forward. Good awareness of the line to gain, providing second and third efforts to get what's needed. Barrett is shorter than ideal but isn't small, possessing a compact, powerful frame with good overall muscle development. Excellent intangibles. Tim Tebow, retired - In terms of statistics, big wins and intangibles, Urban Meyer hit homeruns with these two college quarterbacks. A shared lack of consistent accuracy from the pocket will make duplicating this success very difficult at the next level for Barrett, just as it was for Tebow, who the Broncos drafted 25th overall back in 2010.

Below-average vision and accuracy from the pocket. Sprays the ball, too often forcing would-be pass-catchers to adjust to high, low or late throws, even on shorter routes. Too methodical as a pocket passer, lacking the anticipation he should have with 50 career game appearances... Needs to see it before sending the ball, staring down his receivers and waiting for them to make their break, leading defenders to the ball... Below average size for the position with his height and poor eye discipline leading to a high number of passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. Has a slight quirk in his throwing motion, holding the ball back deeper than most and often using a 3/4 delivery that effectively makes him even shorter... Panics when vision is impaired, risking turnovers with poor decisions into coverage that he sometimes was bailed out on at Ohio State simply because of the talent catching the ball... 1 touchdown to interception ratio and another 43 scores on the ground. the tape isn't as kind as the numbers for the buckeyes' all-time passing leader, however. barrett's jekyll and hyde decision-making and accuracy will likely have him still on the board well into day three and perhaps undrafted. not accurate enough from the pocket for most teams, barrett projects best as a backup for a team already built around a mobile passer, like in buffalo, carolina, dallas or seattle.
