Adam Bergen

TE · Lehigh
Positives...Rare-sized athlete with a muscular chest and shoulders, good bubble, thick legs and ankles...Best when working in the slot or in motion, as he has enough speed to run up the seam when he gets a rolling start...Runs with a normal stride, showing good balance with the ball in his hands and enough short area acceleration to separate...Takes well to hard coaching and also shows the ability to easily take the plays from the board to the field...Does an adequate job of finding the holes in the zone and settling down...Gets his head around quickly and shows the burst to turn a short pass into big extra yardage... Has large, natural hands, extending for the ball away from the body's frame...His above average flexibility makes him go either high or low to secure the ball...Uses his size, power and leaping ability to combat for the ball in traffic and will usually win most battles...Strong runner after the catch, showing the leg drive to power through tackles... Very effective wall-off and seal-type of blocker, who will extend his arms and lock on to seal off the edge rush...Has made marked improvement of getting into the second level to deliver the cut block...Takes good angles to the ball and is very efficient at catching it over his shoulder. Negatives...More quick than fast, lacking the second gear to be considered a vertical threat... Will flash some quickness off the snap, but is late off the ball, as it seems he needs to get a rolling start in order to gain acceleration...Relies too much on power rather than release moves and can be jammed in press coverage...The type that would be seen pushing off defenders in order to gain separation rather than one that can generate the speed to elude...Will occasionally get down the seam, but will not win any foot races vs. the safeties or linebackers at the second level...Despite adequate strength, he is more of a finesse blocker who fails to deliver much explosion coming off the snap...Gets bounced around when trying to work in-line...Gears down quite a bit in attempts to get in and out of his breaks and needs to show better crispness running routes...Although he has not missed any games due to injuries, he has had chronic right knee patella tendonitis that might need further medical evaluation.

His 14 catches tied the school game-record, first set by Rob Varano vs. Northeastern in 1989...Only Ronnie Benn (five vs. Indiana in 1985), Josh Snyder (four vs. Central Connecticut in 2001) and Steve Kreider (four vs. Massachusetts in 1977) had more scoring receptions in a game in school annals.
