Draft History Highlights

  • Where are they Now? - As the hype and hyperbole for the 2005 National Football League draft gains momentum, let's take a look back at notable players who were considered sure things when they were selected.
But as these players wound their way through NFL careers each gained fame or infamy as studs, duds or just ended their playing time with a thud.

It all goes to show that no amount of pre-draft analysis can determine exactly how a pro prospects career will turn out.
A player can become a stud, such as former running back Earl Campbell, who is now paying a high price for his NFL stardom.
Or a prospect can become a dud, such as offensive lineman Tony Mandarich, linebacker Brian Bosworth or quarterback Ryan Leaf.
Or, sadly, an awesome career can end with a sudden thud, as it did for phenomenal running back and multi-sport superstar Bo Jackson.

But in or out of the NFL, life must move on even for these former big names. So in a special series of articles, Sports Xchange historian Sal Maiorana reminds us of these remarkable stories and what these players are doing now.
