12/30/17 - A slew of USC turnovers, along with the sticky hands of safety Damon Webb, helped propel No. 5 Ohio State to a dominant 24-7 victory over No. 8 USC in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday night at AT&T Stadium. In a classic clash of college football bluebloods that normally takes place on the West Coast, two takeaways by Webb were key to the Buckeyes taking control early. Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett also contributed two touchdown runs for the Big Ten champions, who were just on the outside of the College Football Playoff and finished the season 12-2. Trojans quarterback Sam Darnold had a forgettable showing in what could be his final collegiate game. The sophomore didn't throw a touchdown pass and turned it over three times, including an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Webb. USC finished with four turnovers.
Darnold (26 of 45 for 356 yards, no TDs, one interception) did become the first USC player to pass for 4,000 yards in a season. The Pac-12 champs (11-3) also had a seven-game winning streak in the series snapped. The last Ohio State win over USC had been in the 1974 Rose Bowl. The misery started quickly for the Trojans, who turned it over on their first possession as Deontay Burnett fumbled after his first catch. Webb scooped up the loose ball and returned it to the USC 19. Barrett finished off the short drive with a keeper from the 1. A long march by the Buckeyes ended in a short field goal for a 10-0 lead early in the second quarter. Seconds later Webb struck again by jumping a route for a 23-yard pick-6 off Darnold. Darnold's lost fumble later in the quarter resulted in another Barrett scoring run, as Ohio State went up 24-0. - The Sports Xchange

12/01/17 - Ohio State senior quarterback J.T. Barrett is a game-day decision for Saturday's Big Ten title game between the eighth-ranked Buckeyes and No. 4 Wisconsin less than one week after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery, Barrett, who had the procedure done last Sunday after aggravating a right knee inury when he was hit on the sidelines in last Saturday's game against rival Michigan, has been undergoing 15 hours of treatment per day in hopes of returning to the field Saturday. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Barrett's week of treatment has been "very positive," but added that the quarterback's health situation is still "very delicate."
11/30/17 - Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett underwent arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this week but is expected to play in Saturday's Big Ten title game against Wisconsin, the Columbus Dispatch reported. Barrett underwent the surgery on Sunday to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He has experienced issues with the knee all season and the situation became worse when it was injured before and during last Saturday's 31-20 victory over Michigan. Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer hasn't publicly mentioned that Barrett underwent surgery but said in a Thursday radio appearance that Barrett has been cleared to play against the undefeated Badgers.
"He's going to play in the game," Meyer said. Barrett's knee issue worsened prior to the game at Michigan when he was warming up behind the bench area and was bumped into by someone carrying a camera. Barrett's knee twisted and he fell to the turf. He was treated by medical personnel and cleared to play in the contest. But late in the third quarter, the knee again twisted while he was being tackled and Barrett departed the contest. Meyer was irate after the game and called for an "all-out investigation" of the pregame incident. The Dispatch reported Ohio State opted for the Sunday surgery because it felt repairing the torn meniscus immediately was a better option than having Barrett play Saturday and risk further injury. Redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins, who replaced Barrett in the Michigan game, is also being prepared to play in case Barrett has a setback. Barrett has passed for 2,728 yards and 33 touchdowns against seven interceptions this season. He also has rushed for 672 yards and nine scores. - The Sports Xchange
