12/02/17 - Devante Kincade threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores, and Grambling held off Alcorn State 40-32 on Saturday night en route to its second straight Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship. It was the third consecutive meeting between the teams in the title game. Alcorn State (7-5) won it in 2015, and Grambling (11-1) rallied for a 27-20 victory in the 2016 championship. Grambling has won 11 straight games since losing its opener, 43-14 against Tulane, and is 8-2 in the SWAC title games. Kincade had touchdown runs of 14 and 27 yards. The Tigers finished with 439 yards of offense but had just 76 yards in the second half. Grambling stretched the lead to 14-0 when Kincade connected with Calief Samon for a 7-yard score with 35 seconds left in the half. The Tigers added Marc Orozco's 41-yard field goal in the third quarter and Kincade engineered a 13-play, 92-yard drive in the fourth quarter that ended with a 42-yard scoring strike on third-and-20 to Devohn Lindsey for a 24-0 lead. After starter Geremy Hickbottom was injured in the first quarter, Kincade came on to complete 19 of 31 attempts for 230 yards and three scores. Clark Atlanta, which won the classic a year ago, beating Central State 20-13 in a showdown between NCAA Division II schools, scored first after driving 88 yards in 13 plays. Carlos Saldana kicked a 29-yard field goal to put the Panthers up, 3-0.
