09/11/13 - Freshman Terry may get shot at QB...The quarterback battle has been an ongoing issue at Michigan State and three weeks into the season, it doesn't appear a whole lot closer to being settled. After two subpar performances from the offense and the appearance of three quarterbacks, coach Mark Dantonio revealed this week he could be on the verge of playing a fourth -- freshman Damion Terry.

Dantonio said sophomore Connor Cook, who started last week against South Florida, enters this week of practice as the No. 1 quarterback while Terry will get the No. 2 reps. Senior Andrew Maxwell, who started all of last season and this year's opener, as well as redshirt freshman Tyler O'Connor, who played two series last week, remain in the mix, Dantonio said. But it's clear he is open to giving the true freshman a shot. "I do think, based on Damion's performance in the summer in the one practice, his performance as of late, he deserves an opportunity to show what he can do in practice," Dantonio said. "It's pretty self explanatory. We'll evaluate practice." - The Sports Xchange

09/11/13 - Freshman Terry may get shot at QB...Much like he did a week ago, Dantonio does not plan on announcing a starter before Saturday's game against Youngstown State. "There's a lot of pressure in this game," he said. "The pressure out on that field is immense with the pressure and scrutiny of the media. ? There's pressure at that position. That's just the nature of it. "I have their best interests at heart, I truly do. There's no pressure here from me. It's just the fact that I've got to create opportunities for other people. Andrew Maxwell is mature enough as an individual, mature enough as a player, he has a lot of experience that he could almost be like an NFL backup quarterback in the sense that he doesn't need to take the reps, he can take mental reps, he can take a few reps. Tyler O'Connor and Damion Terry, they need reps. They need the pure physical reps to be able to figure this out. Then we have to make decisions.

"To be fair and honest with everybody involved, we have to see what the other guy can do." Dantonio added that, at this point, none of the four should be counted out. "We're looking for production and someone to seize the moment there," Dantonio said. "If that's a young player, fine, if that's a senior, great, if that's a redshirt sophomore, good." - The Sports Xchange

08/14/13 - TOP OF 2013 RECRUITING CLASS: QB Damion Terry (Erie, Pa., Cathedral Prep) A top-10 quarterback according to Scout.com, Terry compiled a 33-8 record as a starter, leading Cathedral Prep to a perfect 15-0 season and a state championship. Terry will have a shot to compete for the starting job right away, though picking up the offense will likely be the tallest task for the freshman. - The Sports Xchange
