09/21/12 - Ryan Osiecki is going nuts. Injured and inactive, his senior season is on hold. His career statistics top the University of New Haven's all-time lists, but they're not moving now. "You have no idea," Osiecki said this week, emphasizing his frustration. "It's a mind game for me now. I just have got to keep my head in it. I could really get down. I've been waiting my whole life for this opportunity, and for now I've just got to suck it up." Osiecki, the prolific quarterback from Seymour, has started all four years at New Haven. On Sept. 1, he was 20-of-27 for 315 yards and two touchdowns as the Chargers opened the season with a 45-18 victory over Merrimack. But in the second series of the second game, at St. Augustine's, Osiecki was tackled just after getting off a pass and his throwing arm was pinned to the ground, leading to strained muscles in the shoulder and back. He missed the rest of a 24-21 victory, replaced by Ronnie Nelson. Osiecki also sat out a 44-10 victory over Pace last Saturday, and he doesn't expect to play this Saturday against St. Anselm (0-3), either. The Chargers have a bye the following week and Osiecki hopes to return Oct. 6 against Assumption. "Ever since [the injury] I haven't had as much arm strength," Osiecki said. "Thankfully, it's nothing serious. But I just don't want to come back too soon." - Mike anthony, The Hartford Courant
