07/22/08 - FS Tom Zbikowski, 5-11, 215, Notre Dame (3/86) agreed to a three-yeardeal. Financial terms weren't known. He fills a long-time void at safety, where the Ravens have gone two years without a quality backup behind Ed Reed and Dawan Landry. Zbikowski is considered a playmaker. He has the distinction of having scored on an interception return, punt return and fumble return during his career. Zbikowski slipped to the middle of the third round because of a poor senior season. He played out of control at times and missed open-field tackles.
07/17/08 - SS Tom Zbikowski, a third-round pick, needs to shed a few pounds. Zbikowski said he weighs 209 pounds. He'll be between 200 and 205 when training camp opens. "Right now, I would say he is a little stiff, but that will get better once he gets his weight down," defensive coordinator Rex Ryan said. "We know he can run a straight line; now we want to see him change direction a little bit more."
05/01/08 - FS Tom Zbikowski, 5-11, 215, Notre Dame (3/86): He fills a long-time void at safety, where the Ravens have gone two years without a quality backup behind Ed Reed and Dawan Landry. 04/29/08 - A closer look at the Ravens' picks: Round 3/86 -- Tom Zbikowski, FS, 5-11, 215, Notre Dame - He fills a long-time void at safety, where the Ravens have gone two years without a quality backup behind Ed Reed and Dawan Landry. Zbikowski is considered a playmaker. He has the distinction of having scored on an interception return, punt return and fumble return during his career. Zbikowski slipped to the middle of the third round because of a poor senior season. He played out of control at times and missed open-field tackles.
04/29/08 - BALTIMORE RAVENS COULD SURPRISE: Tom Zbikowski, S, Notre Dame. A blue-collar worker, Zbikowski is a perfect fit for the hard-hitting Ravens defense. He will make an instant impact on special teams and could push Dawan Landry as a starter over the next few years. There's no questioning his toughness. Zbikowski is a professional boxer.
02/24/08 - Boxing in Madison Square Garden -- heavyweight fight, 6/10/06, knocked out Robert Bell in 49 seconds..."It was awesome. It was a good time. I trained so hard for it -- six or seven weeks. Then having 40 teammates coming to support me and another 60 from home, it was definitely one of the better experiences of my life." (didn't last long ...)"No, not at all." (laughs),(any ambitions of boxing more) "No, not right now. I'm solely focused on football and getting ready for this. And then once you get into minicamp and training camp, you've got to do everything all you can to make a team." ("not right now" mean you plan to continue with boxing) "There's always a possibility. I'm never going to take that out. But as long as there's football in my life, it's not going to happen." - NFL Combine Transcript
02/11/08 - PRO POTENTIAL: SS Tom Zbikowski - Rated as one of the top strong safeties in the draft, Zbikowski had 80 tackles as a senior and two interceptions. He ended his career with 299 tackles, eighth all-time at Notre Dame. He's been a big-play guy throughout his college career. He showed off his chiseled physique at the Senior Bowl, but to improve his draft grade (the third round being the high end), he'll need a good 40 time in further workouts.
