09/05/16 - DT Earl Mitchell (calf) was named the starter on Miami's initial depth chart, but coach Adam Gase said that's not necessarily how things will stay. DT Jordan Phillips, Mitchell's replacement, wasn't impressive in his place.
09/02/16 - DT Earl Mitchell (calf) didn't play in the preseason finale against Tennessee, but Mitchell said during the week he'd be surprised if he didn't play in the Sept. 11 opener at Seattle. Jordan Phillips has started in Mitchell's place the last three weeks and has been steady but unspectacular. The Dolphins need Mitchell's run-stuffing ability.
08/28/16 - DT Earl Mitchell (calf) didn't play in last week's game against Atlanta but coach Adam Gase sounds certain Mitchell will be ready for the Sept. 11 opener at Seattle. It's unclear whether Mitchell would start or the job would remain with Jordan Phillips.
08/18/16 - DT Earl Mitchell, who has missed the last two weeks with a calf injury, isn't likely to play Friday at Dallas, meaning the probable starting defensive line won't be intact. Mitchell hasn't been through a hurricane even though he grew up in the Houston area and played for the Texans for four seasons.
The Dolphins are prepared, however. Head coach Joe Philbin said they've discussed the possibility of leaving town so they can prepare for the preseason finale against Tampa Bay uninterrupted.
