2008 NFL Draft Primer
By Derek Harper and Rob Rang
NFLDraftScout.com

April 25, 2008 -
After the annual fireworks in the opening hour, what in the name of yard work is going to keep you from queuing up the TiVo and tackling some overgrown foliage between your team's picks this weekend?

We know Jake Long is headed to South Florida, and that some combination of Glenn Dorsey, Sedrick Ellis, Vernon Gholston, Chris Long...

April 24, 2008 -
By dealing defensive end Jared Allen to Minnesota for the No. 17 overall pick and two additional third-round choices, the Chiefs have already positioned themselves to be major players in this weekend's draft.

And they may not be done hoarding picks...

Jake Long In the Fold; Miami Still Wheeling & Dealing?
By Rob Rang

April 22, 2008 -
NFLDraftScout.com has learned from multiple league sources that the Dolphins are working the phone lines in an effort to get back into the first round. The purported target: Michigan quarterback Chad Henne.

Henne would be reunited with Jake Long, the former Wolverines offensive tackle who agreed to terms on a contract Tuesday and will be the No. 1 overall pick by Miami on Saturday. Moving back into the first round would be similar to the plan orchestrated just last year by the Cleveland Browns, who chose Wisconsin offensive tackle Joe Thomas with the third overall pick and moved back into the first round to nab Notre Dame passer Brady Quinn...

War-Room Rumblings
By Rob Rang

April 16, 2008 -
With the time between first-round picks cut from 15 to 10 minutes, many teams will look to work out potential deals before the draft even begins. With this draft class lacking an established top prospect, the combination has led to unprecedented pre-draft rumblings and smoke-screens by team decision-makers...

By Chad Reuter

April 06, 2008 -
Campus workouts, known as pro timing days around the league, have pretty much ended. A few players will hold individual workouts for teams because of injuries, but the vast majority of prospects have had their one last shot to prove their athleticism in tests and position agility drills...

Rivers, Ellis Impress at USC Pro Day
By Rob Rang

NFLDraftScout.com

LOS ANGELES, CA, April 02, 2008 --
With all due respect to the hype surrounding recent Pro Days at Boston College and LSU, Southern California's Pro Day on Wednesday proved to be the preeminent collegiate workout of the year. The Eagles and Tigers might prove to have more first-round picks, and more drafted players overall, but the Trojans' defensive duo of tackle Sedrick Ellis and outside linebacker Keith Rivers quickly made sure the USC Pro Day was every bit the athletic spectacle scouts expected...

PALM BEACH, Fla, April 01, 2008 --
Defense has gone high tech in the NFL, even though some offensive-minded coaches tried to keep it from happening.

Just like quarterbacks on offense, defensive players will now be able to have transmitters in their helmets to communicate with coaches on the sideline. The measure passed by a vote of 25-7 Tuesday, with 24 positive votes required to pass. Last year, a similar system failed, 22-10...

Combine, Vertical Jump inconsistencies
By Frank Cooney
The Sports Xchange
March 25, 2008

Changes in procedure and equipment are being cited as possible explanations for conspicuous changes in vertical jump results at February's National Invitational Camp at Indianapolis, NFLDdraftScout.com has confirmed. Numerous teams questioned the results at this year's Combine, where the average vertical jump of more than 300 players was only 29.9 inches, compared to an average of 33.2 inches over the previous nine years based on unofficial data kept by NFLDraftScout.com...

The Countdown to No. 1
By Rob Rang

March 22, 2008 --
Perhaps only the Democratic nomination will hold more intrigue over the coming month than who the Miami Dolphins will take with the first overall pick of the 2008 draft.

Rarely is a draft as convoluted at the top as this one appears to be. In fact, a full seven prospects, league sources contend, remain possibilities to be Miami's pick...
