The Blue Devils have reached the latter part of November still within a shot of bowl eligibility. For a team that not long ago was the laughingstock of Division I football, that's an accomplishment.
But it remains a long shot that Duke can take that next step and qualify for the postseason. The Blue Devils must win at Miami and at home against Wake Forest in order to pull that off.
And the timing might not be ideal. The Blue Devils are coming off a thumping by Georgia Tech in which coach David Cutcliffe identified the game as a rarity in which they didn't play well in any phase. Duke has a two-game losing streak. And in Cutcliffe's two seasons, the Blue Devils are a combined 0-7 in November games.
The injury bug is starting to impact operations to the degree that Cutcliffe said he "is going to adjust our game planning and how we try to win some ball games."
But at this point, the Blue Devils know they must win regardless how they pull it off. They generally feel they've come too far to not make a strong push to finish with something worthwhile.
