Delton rushed for a school bowl-record 158 yards and accounted for four touchdowns in the Wildcats' 35-17 victory over the Rosen-less Bruins in the 29th annual Cactus Bowl at Chase Field on Tuesday. "Coach told me there was a potential to get a lot of reps this game, and when my number was called I feel like I took advantage of it," Delton said. Delton had a 68-yard touchdown run on his first play after entering late in the first quarter, scored on a 5-yard run late in the third quarter and completed the scoring with a 3-yard run to cap a 98-yard drive with 4:34 remaining.

Delton's 8-yard touchdown pass to Dominique Heath in the third quarter gave the Wildcats (8-5) a 17-14 lead as they outscored the Bruins 28-0 in the second half. Delton, who had not played in the final three regular-season games, replaced starter Skylar Thompson for good on the final series of the first half for the Wildcats, who have won consecutive bowl games for the first time in 17 seasons. "We knew going in that was something we were going to have to be able to do, run the ball with him," coach Bill Snyder said. "The proof is in the pudding, and he ran it well." 11/27/17 - (QB) - Skylar Thompson, rFr, 6-1, 209
NOV 27 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: For the second time in as many weeks, Kansas State redshirt freshman quarterback Skylar Thompson has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after leading the Wildcats to a 20-19 comeback victory over Iowa State, the conference office announced Monday. Thompson, who was also honored following the Wildcats' 45-40 upset win at No. 10 Oklahoma State, picked up K-State's eighth player of the week accolade this year and the 51st since 2011, which is tied for the most in the Big 12 over the last six years.

For the second time this season, Thompson led the Wildcats to a fourth-quarter comeback win after trailing by double digits in the final quarter. The Independence, Missouri, product tossed a one-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Zuber as time expired to help K-State turn a 19-7 deficit midway through the fourth quarter into a one-point victory. Down 19-14 with 1:55 to go in the game, Thompson engineered a 10-play, 87-yard game-winning drive in which he completed 7-of-9 passes for 78 yards and the game-winner. For the game, Thompson was 15-of-21 for 152 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. He also ran for 12 yards and a touchdown. - K-State Football

11/25/17 - (WR) - Isaiah Zuber, rSo, 5-11, 182
Skylar Thompson hit Isaiah Zuber in the back of the end zone on the final play of the game to lead Kansas State to a 20-19 victory over Iowa State on Saturday at Bill Snyder Family in Manhattan, Kan. Thompson scrambled around as the clock expired before firing the pass to Zuber. The Wildcats (7-5, 5-4 Big 12) closed the season by winning four of their last five games. Iowa State (7-5, 5-4) dominated the stats page, outgaining K-State 379-264, including a 264-155 advantage through the air. But the Cyclones gave up two scores in the final 6:07 to lose to Kansas State for the 10th straight time. The Wildcats got within one score when halfback Alex Barnes completed a 3-yard touchdown jump pass to fullback Winston Dimel to make it 19-14. Iowa State ran 4:12 off the clock, and converted a third-and-18 on the drive. But two incompletions after that first down left a little too much time on the clock. Kansas State started its final drive on its own 13. A pass to Zuber put the ball on the 1-yard line with 11 seconds left. An incompletion left nine seconds on the clock, setting up the final play. - The Sports Xchange

11/21/17 - (QB) - Jesse Ertz, rSr, 6-2, 212
Kansas State quarterback Jesse Ertz will need surgery on his ailing knee and miss the remainder of the season, while backup Alex Delton remains sidelined after sustaining two concussions. Wildcats coach Bill Snyder said it's possible Delton could return for a bowl game. That means the Wildcats, who are 6-5 after last week's upset of Oklahoma State, will lean on freshman Skylar Thompson against Iowa State on Saturday. He was the Big 12's newcomer of the week after throwing for 204 yards and three TDs and running for 93 yards and another score against the Cowboys. Thompson was also banged-up during the game, briefly leaving with a knee injury. But he returned to the field and said afterward that he would be ready for the Cyclones. - AP College Football

11/18/17 - (WR) - *Byron Pringle, rJr, 6-1, 205
Oklahoma State entered Saturday's game against Kansas State with all the notable stars. The Wildcats exited with the notable win, a 45-40 win over the No. 13-ranked Cowboys before a stunned crowd of 56,790 at Boone Pickens Stadium. Wide receiver Byron Pringle outshined Oklahoma State's standouts in his biggest day as a Wildcat, catching three long touchdown passes and returning a kickoff 89 yards for another score. Skylar Thompson, in his second start at quarterback, produced both through the air and on the ground. And it all added up to a critical sixth win that made Kansas State (6-5, 4-4 Big 12) bowl eligible for the eighth straight season. Oklahoma State fell to 8-3 and 5-3, with all its losses coming at home, and had its faint hope of advancing to the Big 12 championship game ended.

The Cowboys were a near three-touchdown favorite, matching an offense that featured the Big 12 leaders in passing, rushing and receiving against a Kansas State attack down to its third-team quarterback in the redshirt freshman Thompson. But it was the Wildcats who were dynamic, at least on this day. Thompson threw for 204 yards and three scores on 10-of-13 passing and Pringle posted career-bests for receiving yards (166) and touchdowns. Pringle's kickoff return for a score was the second of his career and came with D.J. Reed -- the Big 12 leader in kickoff returns -- out with an undisclosed injury. Rudolph struggled through an off day for much of the afternoon, tossing two interceptions, clouding a 425-yard, three-touchdown passing day. - The Sports Xchange

11/07/17 - (CB) - Duke Shelley, Jr, 5-09, 178
NOV 6 BIG 12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: With a 25-yard interception return touchdown and three total passes defended in last week's overtime victory at Texas Tech, Kansas State junior defensive back Duke Shelley picked up Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. The citation was the first in Shelley's career and the fifth by a Wildcat this year, including the second of the defensive variety as Kendall Adams was honored following the Charlotte game. The Wildcats now have 48 player-of-the-week honors since 2011, the second most in the Big 12.

A product of Tucker, Georgia, Shelley picked off a third-quarter pass and returned it for a score, which was vital in helping the Wildcats earn a 42-35 overtime victory in Lubbock. It was the first road overtime victory in school history, while he helped the Wildcats secure their largest fourth-quarter comeback win under head coach Bill Snyder.Shelley, who also had four tackles and two pass breakups, earned the second pick-six of his career (2016 vs. Oklahoma State) and recorded K-State's nation-leading 111th non-offensive touchdown since 1999. He took over the Big 12 lead in passes defended with 11, while he ranks 14th nationally in the category thanks to five over the last two games alone. - Kansas State Football

11/04/17 - (WR) - *Byron Pringle, rJr, 6-1, 205
Kansas State backup quarterback Skylar John Thompson engineered a game-tying drive in regulation and completed a touchdown pass in overtime to Byron Pringle for a 42-35 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas. Thompson, who replaced injured starter Alex Delton in the second half, scored with a 1-yard run with 42 seconds left in regulation and then completed a two-point conversion pass to Dalton Schoen to force overtime. Thompson completed a 54-yard pass to Schoen in that drive, which occurred after Texas Tech's Clayton Hatfield missed a 31-yard field goal with 3:40 left. In overtime, Thompson completed an 8-yard scoring strike to Pringle to give the Wildcats (5-4, 2-2 Big 12) a 42-35 lead. He completed 5 of 8 passes for 96 yards in the game. Texas Tech (4-5, 2-3) did not answer Kansas State in overtime as quarterback Nic Shimonek threw the ball out of the back of the end zone on a fourth-down play from the 4-yard line. Shimonek completed 34 of 53 passes for 405 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. He led Texas Tech back from 10 points down at two different times in the first half. - The Sports Xchange

10/30/17 - (CB) - *D.J. Reed, Jr, 5-09, 188
OCT 12 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Backed by 189 combined return yards that was featured by a 99-yard kickoff-return touchdown in the Wildcats' 30-20 win at KU, Kansas State junior D.J. Reed was named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It was Reed's second weekly conference accolade this season the first being after the Central Arkansas game as it marked the fourth-straight season a Wildcat earned Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors multiple times in a year. The Wildcats now have 47 player of the week honors since 2011, the second most in the Big 12, while 26 of those have been of the special teams variety, the most in the league.

Reed's 189 combined return yards were the most in the Big 12 this season and tied for the ninth-most nationally. His kickoff-return score in the first quarter was the first of his career as he extended K-State's nation-leading streak to 13-straight years with at least one kickoff-return touchdown. He later returned a kickoff 53 yards, returned a punt 37 yards and sealed the game with an interception on the final play. A product of Bakersfield, California, Reed enters play this week ranked in the top 10 nationally in kickoff-return average (2nd; 36.4 yards/return), punt-return touchdowns (8th; 1), combined return yards (9th; 588) and kickoff-return touchdowns (10th; 1). - Kansas State football

10/28/17 - (RB) - Alex Barnes, rSo, 6-0, 227
Kansas State finished with its third-string quarterback because of injuries, but the Wildcats still topped Kansas 30-20 behind 128 rushing yards from running back Alex Barnes on Saturday in Lawrence, Kan. Redshirt freshman Skylar Thompson entered at quarterback after Alex Delton suffered a second-quarter injury. Delton had started his third straight game in place of injured regular Jesse Ertz. Thompson and the Wildcats converted two short fields for second-half touchdowns. A sack and strip by linebacker Jayd Kirby on the first play of the second half gave Kansas State possession at the Kansas 18. Also, a short punt after the Jayhawks were pinned on their 1 enabled the Wildcats to start another drive from the Kansas 26. Each scoring march took three plays and were capped by touchdown runs of 3 and 9 yards by Barnes, a sophomore who carried 23 times. Thompson completed 4 of 6 passes for 40 yards and ran for 39 yards. Carter Stanley, drawing his first start of the season for Kansas, passed for 418 yards, going 23 of 43. Steven Sims grabbed nine receptions for 233 yards, the third-most yardage in a game by a Kansas receiver. A 60-yard bomb to Sims drew Kansas within 27-20 with 6:51 left. - The Sports Xchange
