2017 CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL - Marcus Davenport, Sr., UTSA,...Davenport posted 55 tackles and set school records with 17.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and eight quarterback hurries this season. A member of the Chuck Bednarik Award and Wuerffel Trophy watch lists and a Senior CLASS Award candidate, he added four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and a fumble return for a touchdown. He was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 23 after recording 11 stops, 3.5 TFLs and a pair of sacks and returning a fumble 34 yards for a TD in the 20-7 win against Rice. Davenport finished his UTSA career as the program's all-time leader in tackles for loss (38.0), sacks (22.0) and QB hurries (21), and he has accepted an invitation to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl on Jan. 27 in Mobile, Ala. - Texas-San Antonio Football

2017 CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): K - Jared Sackett, Fr., UTSA,...Sackett, a Lou Groza Award semifinalist who also was voted to the C-USA All-Freshman Team, made a school-record 19 field goals on 22 attempts (86.4 percent) in his debut season despite not kicking in the season opener at Baylor. A product of Timber Creek High School, he split the uprights on his first eight tries, was a perfect 3-for-3 in three different games and booted two or more field goals in seven of his 10 contests. Sackett was named C-USA Special Teams Player of the Week on Nov. 20 after he made all three attempts, including the game-winner from 40 yards with two seconds left, in the 9-7 victory against Marshall. The Fort Worth native leads C-USA and ranks third in the FBS with 1.9 field goals per game and he also is third in the league and 13th nationally in field goal percentage. - Texas-San Antonio Football

2017 CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): DB - Nate Gaines, Sr., UTSA,...Gaines posted 41 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a team-leading four interceptions, which tied the program's single-season record. The senior free safety picked off three passes and had 80 percent of his stops during C-USA action. He turned in a 15-yard interception return to go along with three tackles in the triumph over UTEP, one pick and five tackles against North Texas and a season-high eight stops and a 35-yard INT return in the season finale at Louisiana Tech. Gaines, who hails from Mesquite Poteet High School, had an interception and a pair of tackles in the 17-10 season-opening victory at Baylor. - Texas-San Antonio Football

2017 CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): LB - La'Kel Bass, Sr., UTSA,...Bass led UTSA with 68 tackles and he added 7.5 tackles for loss, a pair of sacks, two fumble recoveries and a quarterback hurry. The senior from St. Louis, Mo., posted 56 of his stops, five TFLs and both fumble recoveries in conference play. The linebacker turned in a season-high 11 tackles, including a sack, and he recovered a fumble in the 9-7 victory against Marshall. Bass had nine stops and a pair of TFLs against Southern Miss and he recorded eight tackles against both Rice and FIU. - Texas-San Antonio Football

2017 CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): LS - Matt Bayliss, Sr. UTSA,...Bayliss picked up his second career all-conference certificate with his second-team selection one year after being named honorable mention. The senior deep snapper had more than 90 snaps without a miscue this fall and he was a key part of a special teams group that produced semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award and Ray Guy Award. The Tulsa, Okla., native helped UTSA's punt coverage team limit opponents to just eight returns for 23 yards (2.9 avg) on 47 punts, while the field goal unit converted a school-record 20 field goals and 25 extra points. - Texas-San Antonio Football

2017 CONFERENCE USA FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): DL - Kevin Strong Jr, Jr., UTSA,...Strong Jr. collected his first career all-league honor with his second-team nod. The junior defensive lineman registered 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss, three sacks and four quarterback hurries this fall. He had a season-high 2.5 tackles for loss in the 44-14 win at Texas State and he posted a sack apiece in the victories against Baylor, Rice and Marshall. The Cleveland, Texas, native started all 11 contests for a defense that leads C-USA in five different statistical categories. UTSA allowed just 287.8 total yards, 160.1 passing yards and 17 points per game, marks that rank seventh, third and eighth, respectively, in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). - Texas-San Antonio Football

Davenport posted 55 tackles and set school records with 17.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and eight quarterback hurries this season. He added four pass breakups, three forced fumbles and had a fumble return for a touchdown. UTSA senior DE/OLB Marcus Davenport (6-5, 252, 4.77, #93) continued his impressive 2017 season with 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack against UAB on Saturday. He now has 45 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles on the season and with his impressive tape, Davenport is making a strong case to be a top-50 draft pick. After his dominant performance against North Texas last week, UTSA senior DE Marcus Davenport (6-5, 252, 4.77, #93) was at it again against Rice. He finished with 11 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and a fumble recovery that he returned 34 yards for a touchdown. OCT 23 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: UTSA senior DE Marcus Davenport was a force on defense in UTSA's 20-7 win against Rice on Saturday night at the Alamodome. He registered a career high-tying 11 tackles (six solo), including two sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss, and he tallied a pass breakup and a fumble return for a touchdown to help the Roadrunners to their third-straight win over the Owls. Davenport scooped up a fumble by the Rice quarterback and returned it 34 yards for the game's first score midway through the first quarter. It marked his first career TD and the second fumble return for a touchdown by UTSA this season. Davenport now has 32 tackles, 12 TFLs, 6.5 sacks, seven quarterback pressures and four pass breakups on the season. The San Antonio native ranks second among all FBS players with 2.0 TFLs per game and fifth with 1.08 sacks per game. - Conference USA Football

Dalton Sturm threw for four touchdowns and ran for a fifth, all in the first half, as UT San Antonio dismantled Southern 51-17 in a nonconference game Saturday night. Sturm put the Roadrunners on the board less than three minutes into the game, firing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Kerry Thomas Jr. Jalen Rhodes scored from 8-yards out and Tyrell Clay punched in from the 2 to give UT San Antonio a 21-0 lead after one quarter. Sturm sandwiched a pair of touchdown passes to Shaq Williams, from 17- and 14-yards out, around his own 8-yard run for a score in the second quarter, then capped his first half with an 11-yard pass to Josh Stewart for a 48-0 lead. Bryce Rivera took over at quarterback for UT San Antonio in the second half and his pass was picked off by Danny Johnson and returned 61 yards for Southern's first score. - AP College Football

The Texas-San Antonio defense squashed Baylor and Roadrunners quarterback Dalton Sturm made enough plays to lift his team to a 17-10 victory on Saturday night at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas. Baylor kicker Connor Martin kicked a 20-yard field goal to make it a one-score game with 2:40 left in the fourth quarter. The Bears got the ball back with 2:08 remaining, but UTSA stopped Baylor's final drive at the Bears' 39-yard line. UTSA linebacker Josaih Tauaefa wrapped up Baylor quarterback Anu Solomon on a fourth-and-10 play, forcing Solomon to throw a wobbly, incomplete pass. Tauaefa's play iced it for the Roadrunners (1-0). 2017 Preseason John Mackey Award Watchlist: Shaq Williams, UTSA,...Williams, who redshirted the 2015 campaign, is coming off a junior season that saw him play in all 13 games, including three starts (at Old Dominion/vs. North Texas/vs. Charlotte). The Jackson, Miss., native caught 13 passes for 158 yards (12.2 avg.) and two touchdowns. He opened the year with a season-high three receptions for 63 yards, including a 51-yarder, against Alabama State (Sept. 3) and hauled in a pair of throws for 37 yards, including a 24-yard score, against Arizona State (Sept. 16). 2016 ALL-CONFERENCE USA FIRST TEAM (COACHES): LB - Josiah Tauaefa, Fr., UTSA,...Tauaefa leads the Roadrunners with a program single-season record 104 tackles through the campaign's first 12 games and he also has racked up 7.5 TFLs, five sacks, seven QB hurries and an interception. He currently ranks third among Football Bowl Subdivision freshmen in tackles this year. The redshirt freshman linebacker opened his career with 13 stops and a pair of sacks against Alabama State (Sept. 3) and just missed the school's single-game record when he registered 15 at Old Dominion three weeks later (Sept. 24). The 6-foot-1, 230-pound former defensive end added another 12 against Southern Miss (Oct. 8) en route to C-USA Defensive Player of the Week accolades and 10 more at Rice the following week (Oct. 15). - Texas-San Antonio Football

2016 ALL-CONFERENCE USA SECOND TEAM (COACHES): DB - Michael Egwuagu, Sr., UTSA,...Egwuagu, also a preseason all-conference pick and honorable mention selection last season, ranks third on the club with 76 tackles, 6.5 of which have come behind the line of scrimmage, to go along with a team-leading eight passes defended, one interception, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. 2016 ALL-CONFERENCE USA SECOND TEAM (COACHES): DL - Marcus Davenport, Jr., UTSA,...Davenport, a preseason all-conference selection and honorable mention choice a year ago, leads UTSA's defensive linemen with 62 tackles, including 10 for loss, and he also has team-leading marks of 6.5 sacks and a program-record eight QB hurries this fall. He finished the regular season strong by posting 32 stops, seven TFLs and 4.5 sacks in the Roadrunners' final five outings. The junior defensive end from San Antonio accumulated a career-high 11 tackles at then-No. 22 Texas A&M (Nov. 19) and also added 1.5 TFLs, one sack and a fumble recovery in that contest. 2016 CONFERENCE USA FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Freshman of the Year honors were given to UTSA LB Josiah Tauaefa, who leads all C-USA rookies and ranks third in the FBS among freshmen in tackles with a school-record 104. Just the third linebacker to win the honor in league history, Tauaefa added five sacks, seven quarterback hurries, one interception and two passes defended. Dalton Sturm and Jared Johnson combined for 414 yards passing and three touchdowns and UTSA defeated Charlotte 33-14 on Saturday night to become bowl eligible for the first time in the six-year history of the program. Sturm connected with Kerry Thomas on a 73-yard score and 13 yards to Brady Jones in the first half with the Roadrunners (6-6, 5-3 Conference USA) leading 17-7 at intermission. Victor Falcon kicked his second field goal in the third quarter for a 20-7 lead before Juwan Foggie picked up a mishandled punt snap and scored from 3 yards out for Charlotte (4-8, 3-5). Johnson came on for UTSA and led two fourth-quarter touchdown drives, passing 20 yards to Marquez McNair for a score, and Jalen Rhodes capping a 77-yard drive with a 2-yard TD run. Jarveon Williams ran for 108 yards and three touchdowns as Texas-San Antonio rolled to a 45-25 victory over Middle Tennessee on Saturday. Jalen Rhodes had a 26-yard touchdown run, Williams scored twice inside the 6, and Dalton Sturm threw a 16-yard TD to Josh Stewart as UTSA (5-4, 4-2 Conference USA) led 28-10 at halftime. John Urzua threw a 53-yard touchdown to Richie James to pull Middle Tennessee (6-3, 3-2) to 28-17, but Matt Guidry ran for 57 yards on the ensuing kickoff and Williams scored on a 22-yard run two plays later to stretch the Roadrunners lead to 35-17. From there the game turned sloppy with four straight turnovers. Urzua threw an interception and was later sacked and fumbled. Strum was picked off twice before scoring from the 1-yard line late in the third quarter to make it 45-17. Dalton Sturm threw for two touchdowns and Jalen Rhodes ran for two more to lead UTSA to a 31-17 win over North Texas on Saturday night. Sturm had touchdown passes of 7 yards to Kerry Thomas Jr. and 21 to Josh Stewart to give the Roadrunners (4-4, 3-2 Conference USA) a 14-0 halftime lead. The Mean Green (4-4, 2-2) got on the board on the first snap of the second half when quarterback Mason Fine broke off an 80-yard run, but Rhodes' 9-yard run made it 24-7 after three quarters. Rhodes added a 19-yard TD run in the fourth quarter that made it 31-10 before Fine connected with Kenny Buyers for a 10-yard score. North Texas rushed for 152 yards after getting just 21 in the first half and had a 409-318 advantage in total offense, but the Mean Green had four turnovers. Fine passed for 257 yards and ran for 91 - after losing 19 on two sacks on the final possession - but had two interceptions and lost a fumble. - AP Sports

Dalton Sturm threw two touchdown passes in the first half and Texas-San Antonio held on to beat Rice 14-13 on Saturday night. UTSA (3-3, 2-1 Conference USA) has won two straight since snapping a three-game skid. Rice (0-6, 0-4) is off to its worst start since losing its first nine games and finishing 2-10 in 2009. Sturm threw a 75-yard TD pass and a 28-yard score, both to Josh Stewart between the first and second quarters. Tyler Stehling ran for a 13-yard touchdown, capping a 13-play, 75-yard opening drive for the Owls, but Hayden Tobola missed the extra point. Stehling threw a 13-yard TD pass to Samuel Stewart in the third quarter. Tobola missed a 50-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 42-yarder with 1:27 remaining. Rice forced a three-and-out with 29 seconds left on the Roadrunners' next series. Stehling completed 2 of 3 passes and drove to the UTSA 27 before time expired. - AP Sports
