12/18/17 - (WR) - David Sills V, Jr, 6-3, 203
West Virginia wide receiver David Sills V, the national leader in touchdown receptions with 18, will return for his senior season, the school announced Monday. That news, combined with the return of quarterback Will Grier, who also will be a senior in 2018, will once again give the Mountaineers one of the top pass-catch combinations in the nation. "It is important to me to finish what I started in the classroom and help our program win a Big 12 championship," Sills said in a statement. "WVU holds a special place in my heart, and I am looking forward to seeing what this team can accomplish next year." NFLDraftScout.com ranks Sills as the sixth-best junior receiver in the country, giving him a third-round grade at the moment. Sills had a breakout year after spending the 2016 season in junior college. The 6-foot-4, 203-pound junior has 60 catches for 980 yards, with three games in which he caught three touchdown passes. Sills was one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, which went to Oklahoma State's James Washington. West Virginia (7-5) will play Utah (6-6) in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on Dec. 26. - The Sports Xchange

12/14/17 - (RB) - Justin Crawford, Sr, 5-11, 200
West Virginia running back Justin Crawford will skip the Mountaineers' bowl game to focus on preparing for the 2018 NFL Draft. Crawford was the third-leading rusher in the Big 12 this year with 1,061 yards and seven touchdowns and finished with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. The senior was named to the all-Big 12 second team both times. West Virginia (7-5) plays Utah (6-6) on Dec. 26 in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. - AP College Football

12/14/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
West Virginia quarterback Will Grier announced Thursday that he will return for his senior season and bypass the 2018 NFL draft. Grier has passed for 3,490 yards and 34 touchdowns against 12 interceptions for the Mountaineers this season. "There is still a great deal that I want this team to accomplish and I look forward to helping lead us to success in 2018," Grier said in a statement. "I am completely focused and looking forward to building off the success we had this year and want to do even greater things next year." Grier missed the regular-season finale against Oklahoma due to a hand injury. He hasn't yet been medically cleared for the Heart of Dallas Bowl contest against Utah on Dec. 26. Grier's return qualified as a good development for West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen. "Will's decision to return next year certainly makes it a great day for West Virginia football," Holgorsen said in a statement. "He is a great leader for our program. His teammates and the coaching staff are certainly looking forward to his return, and this is positive news for all involved." Grier began his college career at Florida but departed after receiving a one-year suspension for use of performance-enhancing substances. - The Sports Xchange

12/01/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
2017 BIG 12 OFFENSIVE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Will Grier, West Virginia, QB, Jr., Davidson, N.C.,...Grier, who was named the league's newcomer of the week five times, completed 250-of-388 passes for 3,490 yards and 34 touchdowns before sustaining a hand injury early in the Texas game on Nov. 18, missing the remainder of that game along with Oklahoma. He is nationally ranked in the top 10 in passing touchdowns (4), passing efficiency (8), total offense (9), passing yards (9) yards per pass attempt (9 and points responsible for (10)). He was ranked No. 12 in completions per game, passing yards per completion (18) and completion percentage (20). Grier passed for 300 or more yards in nine games and had multiple touchdowns in 10 games during the 2017 season. - West Virginia Football

11/21/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
The season of West Virginia redshirt junior QB Will Grier (6-1, 200, 4.65, #7) might be over due to a broken finger. He left the game in the first quarter against Texas after diving for the pylon and will require surgery on a broken middle metacarpal. He is out for the regular-season finale against Oklahoma and is questionable to return for the bowl game. Because the injury is to his throwing hand, Grier might require more rehab time before he is ready to resume throwing. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

11/20/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
West Virginia quarterback Will Grier has undergone surgery on a broken finger in his throwing hand and will miss four to six weeks. Coach Dana Holgorsen on Monday did not explicitly rule out Grier for the Mountaineers' bowl game but said coming back is "going to be kind of tough." Grier injured the middle finger on his right hand in Saturday's 28-14 loss to Texas as he dove for the end-zone pylon on a first-quarter run. He underwent surgery Sunday in Charlotte, North Carolina. Redshirt sophomore Chris Chugunov will get his first career start on Saturday at No. 3 Oklahoma. - AP College Football

11/18/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
West Virginia junior quarterback Will Grier left Saturday's game against Texas with what appeared to be a grotesque broken finger on his throwing hand. Grier fumbled near the Longhorns goal line as he dove for the pylon in the first quarter and ran off the field holding his hand high. One of his fingers appeared to be misplaced. Grier entered second nationally with 34 touchdown passes and fourth in passing yards per game at 344. Sophomore Chris Chugunov, who was 10 for 16 passing this season entering the game, replaced Grier. - The Sports Xchange

11/14/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma is going to be tough to beat for the first-team quarterback spot when the AP All-America team comes out in December. But there are second and third teams, and the shaggy, swashbuckling Grier should be in the mix for some recognition. The Florida transfer nicknamed "Touchdown Jesus" is second in the country in TD passes with 34 and ranks in the top 10 of just about every significant quarterback stat. What they are saying: "I don't know if I've been around a guy that's as accurate. We chart drops; we chart bad throws; we chart bad decisions. He just doesn't have many of them." West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen. Outlook: Grier still has a couple of games against big-name opponents left: Texas this week and at Oklahoma the last day of the regular season where he can go throw-for-throw with Mayfield. - AP College Football

11/13/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
NOV 13 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Junior quarterback Will Grier has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the fifth time this season following his performance in a 28-23 victory at K-State on Saturday. Grier finished the afternoon 27-of-46 for 372 yards and four touchdowns. Grier topped 300 yards passing for the ninth time this season, and now has thrown for four or more touchdowns in four games. In the nationally rankings, Grier is No. 2 in passing touchdowns (34), No. 3 in passing yards (3,440), No. 4 in passing yards per game (344.0) and No. 7 in passing efficiency (163.5). West Virginia returns to action on Saturday against Texas at Milan Puskar Stadium. The game is scheduled for a noon kickoff, and will be televised on ESPN. - West Virginia Football

11/11/17 - (QB) - Will Grier, rJr, 6-1, 214
West Virginia overcame a sluggish start and four first-half turnovers to claim a 28-23 victory over Kansas State on a cool, rainy Saturday afternoon at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. Quarterback Will Grier completed 27 of 46 passes for 372 yards and four touchdowns for West Virginia (7-3, 5-2 Big 12). It was the first game in the last four that Kansas State (5-5, 3-4 Big 12) has not allowed more than 400 yards passing. Skylar Thompson, making his first career start, was 13 of 26 for 159 yards for Kansas State. The Mountaineers got a gift touchdown at the end of the first half, then neither team could mount much offense in the second half. Following a turnover with 10 seconds left on the Kansas State 30, Grier ran around the backfield before heaving the ball to Ka'Raun White in the end zone with zeros on the clock, giving WVU a 28-20 halftime lead. The Wildcats squandered several good opportunities early. D.J. Reed forced the first of two turnovers with a forced fumble and recovery after a completed pass to David Sills. But the Wildcats only gained four yards and had to punt. - The Sports Xchange
