05/08/08 - Derek Stanley, Wis-Whitewater, Rams WR Derek Stanley was back in school this offseason at Wisconsin-Whitewater working toward his degree. Coach Scott Linehan knew that. What Linehan didn't know was that Stanley competed with the school's track team.
"I'll sit down and visit with him," Linehan said when told of what Stanley had done. "He and I never discussed (that); this is the first I've heard of it. That's something that probably won't be happening many times again."
Said Stanley, "I just figured a good way to get back in shape and get my speed back would be to run track. Doing track workouts and sprint workouts are essentially the same things I'd be doing back in St. Louis."
Stanley finished sixth in the long jump at the Division III championship in March, and his school was seventh.
05/08/08 - Courtney Taylor, Auburn, Seahawks WR Courtney Taylor is a candidate to be the Seahawks third receiver. Taylor, from Auburn, has some size to play across the middle and the speed to stretch the field but has suffered a series of injuries.
05/08/08 - Jordan Kent, Oregon, Seahawks WR Jordan Kent is a candidate to fill the No. 3 WR role with the Seahawks. He's a big question mark. He was a track and basketball star at Oregon who has little idea how to play the game. But he has incredible speed and his pass-catching ability has dramatically improved, to the point that the coaching staff believes he can be a contributor rather than a project.

05/08/08 - Antonio Johnson, Miss St, Titans DT Antonio Johnson was set to line up in Albert Haynesworth's spot in recent OTA workouts. Haynesworth, designated the Titans' franchise player, is seeking a long-term deal and won't be around until that's resolved. Johnson said his rehab is over and he got cleared several weeks ago.
"I've been with the regular (offseason conditioning) program for about three or four weeks now and everything is going fine," he said. "For OTAs I'm cleared to do everything and I will be doing everything. I'll be running with the first group, that's what my coach told me, and we'll see how that works out. ... It's very exciting." He is down from 335 pounds to around 320 without losing power and trainers gave defensive line coach Jim Washburn great reports about Johnson's rehab work ethic. "You don't want to get too high on anybody, but it's exciting to watch Mookie," Washburn said, using Johnson's nickname. "He's a big, powerful man. He's like Robaire Smith when he was new. Remember how it wasn't really anything to do with the weight room? He was just strong."

05/08/08 - Kevin Kolb, Houston, Eagles QB Kevin Kolb, the '07 second-round pick who spent most of his rookie season as the No. 3 quarterback behind starter Donovan McNabb and backup A.J. Feeley, took most of the snaps with the No. 2 offense at the team's minicamp last weekend. Asked whether Kolb was ready to be the team's No. 2 quarterback, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said: "We'll see. He's working hard, both mentally and physically. He's continued to impress and he's continued to get better in every phase, and I would expect him to play well through these camps and into the preseason. But A.J.'s a veteran that's won games in this league and has done a nice job in many situation for us. So there's a pretty good competition going on there."
