Draft Scout Carson Wentz News
12/26/17 - QB Carson Wentz joined his team on crutches at midfield for the pre-game coin toss.
12/13/17 - QB Carson Wentz had surgery Wednesday to repair the torn ACL in his left knee.
The surgery was performed in Pittsburgh by James P. Bradley, a professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He was selected by Wentz's agent group. Wentz tore the ligament late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Rams on a run as he was trying to get into the end zone. He was hit by two Rams in the end zone, but he already apparently had torn the ligament right before that. He stayed in the game for three more plays, including a two-yard touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery, before limping to the sideline.
12/11/17 - QB Carson Wentz left Sunday's 43-35 win against the Los Angeles Rams with a knee injury in the third quarter.
After the game, reports surfaced that said the Eagles believe Wentz might have a torn ACL. Wentz is scheduled for an MRI exam Monday to determine the severity of the injury.
Wentz, who threw four touchdown passes, absorbed a punishing blow when trying to run in for a score. He made it to the end zone, but a holding penalty negated the score.
Nick Foles took over in the fourth quarter for Wentz, who leads the NFL with 33 touchdown passes and has guided Philadelphia to an 11-2 record, the best in the NFC.
Eagles head Doug Pederson would not confirm or deny talk of a torn ACL after Sunday's game.
Wentz left after taking a big hit on a third-quarter touchdown run that was called back because of a penalty. But he stayed in the game to deliver his last touchdown pass before hobbling to the sideline. He would leave the stadium on a motorized cart to reach the team bus.
"We will find out more tomorrow," Philadelphia head coach Doug Pederson said, discounting a report that Wentz had suffered a torn knee ligament. "You're speculating he is going to be out, but I just don't know yet."
Before Wentz exited, he completed 23-of-41 attempts for 291 yards, with an interception.
In the first matchup of the 2016 draft's top two picks, Wentz got the better of Goff, the No. 1 overall selection that year. Goff was 16 of 26 for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
The Eagles had regained the lead 31-28 on Alshon Jeffery's scoring catch of 2 yards after the Rams committed two 15-yard penalties. For Wentz, it was his 33rd touchdown pass of the season, breaking Sonny Jurgensen's franchise mark set in 1961.
12/11/17 - QB Carson Wentz has a torn ACL in his left knee and will miss the remainder of the season and playoffs, coach Doug Pederson announced Monday. The 24-year-old Wentz, who was expected to be an NFL MVP candidate this season, underwent an MRI on Monday morning after suffering the knee injury in Sunday's 43-35 victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
12/11/17 - QB Carson Wentz will miss the rest of the season after tearing his left ACL Sunday against the Rams. He will have surgery on the knee as soon as the swelling goes down.
He had an MRI Monday that confirmed the tear. Head coach Doug Pederson said no other ligaments were damaged.
