Draft Scout Martez Ivey News
09/04/17 - OT Martez Ivey, a junior three-year starter, was being counted on to help protect UF's quarterbacks this season. But Ivey didn't have a great start to the season, being whistled for an early false start and being part of an offensive line that allowed six sacks and 11 tackles for loss.
08/15/17 - OL Martez Ivey is a third-year junior and preseason All-SEC first-teamer who has started since his freshman season. Ivey will move from left guard to left tackle this season and will be counted on to protect the blind side of whichever QB wins the starting job for Florida this season. Ivey is the leader of UF's most improved unit, an offensive line that flourished late last season once T.J. McCoy moved into the role of starting center and Jawaan Taylor took control of the starting job at right tackle. UF's offensive line this season should be able to protect the quarterback better and open more holes in the run.
07/11/17 - Florida's Ivey ready to blossom as a LT...Florida junior offensive lineman Martez Ivey should "flourish" in his first season at left tackle, Gators coach Jim McElwain said on Tuesday. The former five-star recruit, who played left guard in his first two seasons, is poised to make a major statement in terms of the NFL Draft. NFLDraftScout.com rates Ivey as the 21st-best overall prospect and the third-best offensive tackle behind Oklahoma's Orlando Brown (No. 7 overall) and Texas' Connor Williams (No. 14). "Tez is a natural left tackle. That's what he was coming out," McElwain said at SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala. "It speaks volumes to his unselfishness that he went in there and played at guard, knowing that we needed that to happen."
McElwain said he inherited only four scholarship offensive linemen when he joined Florida for the 2015 season, and he needed Ivey (6-foot-5, 305) in the interior of the line to piece together the best unit. Ivey's opportunity to move to left tackle this season came when David Sharpe left early for the NFL, and was selected in the fourth round by the Oakland Raiders. "I think he'll really flourish now," McElwain said of Ivey. "He has that ability to move on the outside." Ivey earned second-team All-SEC honors last season from the league's coaches. - The Sports Xchange
12/19/16 - 2016 ALL-SEC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES): OL Martez Ivey, Florida,...Ivey, a two-time SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week this season, was instrumental in helping Florida's offense this season. Running back Jordan Scarlett ran for over 100 yards in three games this season, and UF recorded over 500 yards of total offense in two SEC games (Kentucky, Missouri) for the first time since 2008. In addition, Ivey and the rest of Florida's offensive line ranked eighth in the conference in sacks allowed (2.08 per game). - Florida Football
11/14/16 - NOV 14 SEC CO-OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Martez Ivey, OL, Florida...Ivey, the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week in Week 9, and the rest of the Gator offensive line did well in protecting Florida in both rushing and passing...Florida gave up just one sack and allowed no QB hurries, which aided quarterback Austin Appleby in throwing for 201 yards and two touchdowns, and it also helped running back Jordan Scarlett to a career-high 134 yards on the ground and his second game of 100+ yards this year. - SEC Football
