01/04/18 - Florida State's Josh Sweat will forego his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL draft. The 6-foot-5, 253-pound defensive lineman led the Seminoles in sacks (5.5) and tackles for loss (12.5). He also had 56 tackles, which led the defensive line and was third on the team. Sweat chose not to play in the Seminoles' Independence Bowl victory over Southern Mississippi on Dec. 27. He said in a statement released by the school on Wednesday that he made the decision to enter the draft after discussions with his family. Sweat is the third Florida State player to declare for the draft, joining safety Derwin James and tight end Ryan Izzo. - AP College Football
09/27/17 - Josh Sweat is proving a relative bright spot for an 0-2 Seminoles squad still smarting after the loss of star sophomore quarterback Deondre Francois, showing off the combination of initial burst, length and explosive power in his hands in a loss to North Carolina State in Week Four. A surgically repaired left knee could impact Sweat's final draft status but his talent (and potential for a breakout season) is obvious. -- NFLDraftScout.com
09/05/17 - Sept 5 ACC Defensive lineman of The Week: Josh Sweat, Florida State, DE, 6-5, 250, Jr., Chesapeake, Va.,...Sweat had five tackles and a seven-yard sack in Saturday night's loss to No. 1 Alabama. 09/23/16 - Seminoles DE Sweat to miss time after knee surgery...Florida State defensive end Josh Sweat underwent surgery Thursday for a meniscus tear in his left knee. Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher told reporters that Sweat will miss Saturday's game versus South Florida and is expected to be sidelined 1-2 weeks. "He had a little piece of cartilage in there that they clipped out. It was very clean," Fisher said per the Orlando Sentinel. "He wanted to play with it, and couldn't do it so we went to clean it out." Sweat initially suffered the injury in practice prior to last week's drubbing at Louisville but played in the game. He practiced Monday and Tuesday before the knee swelled, prompting the decision to have the surgical procedure. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound sophomore registered 41 tackles with two sacks and an interception as a freshman. - The Sports Xchange
09/16/16 - DE Josh Sweat of Florida State is in danger of missing Saturday's showdown with Louisville due to a left knee injury suffered in practice on Thursday.
Sweat, a sophomore, didn't fly with the team to Louisville on Thursday night, according to published reports. It remains possible he could travel at some point on Friday if he is ruled fit to play. Not having Sweat would rank as a second big blow for the second-ranked Seminoles, as they try to slow down the powerful offense of the No. 10 Cardinals.
