Draft Scout Mark Walton News
10/10/17 - Unfortunate news for one of the most athletic running backs in college football: Miami (Fla.) junior RB Mark Walton (5-9, 195, 4.49, #1) injured his right ankle on Saturday and will undergo season-ending surgery. Walton is an exciting player with the ball in his hands and was expected to declare early for the 2018 NFL Draft, but his fourth quarter injury against Florida State could change his plans. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
10/09/17 - Miami's 24-20 victory over Florida State lifted a big weight off the program. The 11th-ranked Hurricanes are hoping that snapping a seven-game losing streak to their Sunshine State rival leads to bigger success in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Miami (4-0, 2-0) though will have to go the rest of the season without running back Mark Walton. The school announced Sunday that the junior - third in the ACC with 107 rushing yards per game - will have surgery on his injured right ankle. Sophomore Travis Homer played during the fourth quarter and had three carries for 29 yards.
The Hurricanes has won their first two ACC games for the first time since 2013, but if they are going to win the Coastal Division for the first time there remain challenges. The first one comes Saturday against Georgia Tech, which also is 2-0 in conference play, followed by Virginia Tech on Nov. 4. "We obviously have a long way to go but being 2-0 is a good start," Miami coach Mark Richt said. "We've got meat of our Coastal Division coming up. Obviously, Georgia Tech is resting up pretty good while we have exerted every ounce of energy you could hope for. There is a long way to go as far as that race." - AP College Football
09/23/17 - With Miami down 16-10 early in the third quarter Saturday, former Hurricanes quarterback Brad Kaaya sent out the following tweet: "Offense going to find its rhythm," he tweeted, punctuating the missive with a "thumbs up" emoji. Perhaps Kaaya should go buy a lottery ticket. He could not have been more on the money with this one. Shortly after Kaaya's tweet, his successor, junior Malik Rosier responded by passing for 189 yards in the third quarter to rally the 14th-ranked Hurricanes to a 52-30 victory over Toledo on Saturday. Rosier was 11-of-14 passing in the quarter and had his team sitting on a 38-16 lead before the visiting Rockets staged a mini-rally to close to within eight points. The Hurricanes (2-0) closed out the game with touchdowns runs by Rosier and running back Travis Homer. Rosier passed for a career-high 333 yards and running back running back Mark Walton rushed for a career-high 204 as Miami amassed 527 yards of offense. Walton missed about a quarter of action after rolling his ankle while getting tackled in the second quarter. He returned late in the third. He scored on a 44-yard run in the first quarter and had an 82-yard sprint to set up a field goal later in the period. - The Sports Xchange
