12/22/17 - 2017 WALTER CAMP FCS ALL-AMERICA TEAM: LB Matthew Oplinger, Yale,...Oplinger, Yale's senior linebacker from New Jersey and the Ivy League's Bushnell Cup recipient on defense, added a local flavor to his accolades this fall, 2017 Walter Camp FCS All-America. Oplinger was a finalist for the 2017 Buck Buchanan Award, the top defensive player in the FCS. He registered 11.5 sacks in 10 games and led the Bulldogs to an outright league title with a 9-1 record. That sack total included three one on a safety against Holy Cross in October at New Haven. The senior from Summit, N.J., also led the Ivies with 14.5 tackles for lost yardage while making 42 overall tackles and earning first-team All-Ivy and All-New England honors and numerous All-America teams. Oplinger led a Bulldogs defense that paced the League in total defense (302.8) and rushing defense (73.1), while also ranking second in pass defense efficiency (111.6). In the national rankings, Yale is third in rushing defense, eighth in scoring defense and 13th in total defense. - Yale Football
12/22/17 - 2017 AFCA FCS COACHES' SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: LB Matthew Oplinger, 6-3 242, Sr., Yale, Tony Reno Summit, N.J. (Delbarton),...Oplinger was the leader of and most dominant player on the league's top defensive team, one that ranked 8th in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) with just over 15 points allowed per game. He led the Ancient Eight and was second in the country in sacks. Oplinger was a finalist for the 2017 Buck Buchanan Award, the top defensive player in the FCS. He registered 11.5 sacks in 10 games and led the Bulldogs to an outright league title with a 9-1 record. That sack total included three one on a safety against Holy Cross in October at New Haven.

The senior from Summit, N.J., also led the Ivies with 14.5 tackles for lost yardage while making 42 overall tackles and earning first-team All-Ivy and All-New England honors and numerous All-America teams. Oplinger led a Bulldogs defense that paced the League in total defense (302.8) and rushing defense (73.1), while also ranking second in pass defense efficiency (111.6). In the national rankings, Yale is third in rushing defense, eighth in scoring defense and 13th in total defense. Oplinger, who also caught a point-after pass in a road win against Penn, is an economics major in Ezra Stiles College who notched his name in the Yale record books this year. 02/13/17 - 2016 ALL-IVY LEAGUE HONORABLE MENTION (COACHES): Matt Oplinger, Yale (Jr., OLB Summitt, N.J.)...The honorable mention Bulldogs included cornerback Dale Harris, right guard Mason Friedline, defensive end Marty Moesta, center Karl Marback, linebackers Matthew Oplinger and Darius Manora and defensive end Kyle Mullen. Oplinger, a junior who was all over the field making plays, including seven tackles and 1.5 sacks at Harvard last weekend, finished with 43 tackles, including eight for lost yardage. - Yale Football

10/12/15 - OCT 5 IVY LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Yale sophomore linebacker Matthew Oplinger (Summit, N.J.) led the Bulldogs' defensive attack with 11 solo tackles and a pair of ferocious sacks in the road win at Lehigh. Oplinger also knocked down a pass and tried to run for a two-point conversion. He guided a Yale defensive unit that blanked Lehigh in the first half and registered four sacks and racked up six tackles for lost yardage.
