Draft Scout LaMarr Woodley News
10/20/14 - DE LaMarr Woodley left Sunday's game with an undisclosed injury. His status for the Cleveland game this week is uncertain.
04/02/14 - LB LaMarr Woodley was signed by the Raiders March 14.
04/01/14 - LB LaMarr Woodley had his contract terminated by the Steelers with a post-June 1 designation March 11.
03/10/14 - LB LaMarr Woodley was informed he will be released with a post-June 1 designation after the start of the 2014 league year, which saves the Steelers money against the salary cap.
Cutting Woodley was expected after Jason Worilds, who uprooted Woodley from his left outside linebacker spot last season, was given the transition designation and then signed his tender.
Woodley is owed more than $25 million over the next three seasons with more than $13.7 million in prorated bonuses to account for, the type of bookkeeping that has the Steelers sweating every precious cent with free agency beginning.
Releasing Woodley after June 1 allows the Steelers to divide the cap penalty into 2014 and 2015, rather than absorbing it all now. Cutting him on or before June 1 would have resulted in a $14.2 million cap charge as dead money.
Safety Troy Polamalu and tight end Heath Miller were on similar footing until signing new contracts with the Steelers last week that reduced their cap figures significantly. Tackle Levi Brown was also released.
Injuries reduced Woodley's role the past two seasons, and he finished last season on injured reserve. He had 35 sacks from 2008-10 playing opposite James Harrison.
12/18/13 - LB LaMarr Woodley went on injured reserve with another calf injury.
