Draft Scout Bobby Wagner News
08/02/15 - LB Bobby Wagner signed a four-year, $43 million contract extension with the Seahawks, making him the NFL's highest-paid middle linebacker.
The fourth-year player agreed to the extension late Saturday night and the team made the signing official on Sunday.
Team owner Paul Allen confirmed Wagner's extension on his Twitter account: "@Seahawks signed LB @Bwagz54 to a 4 year extension tonight! #GoHawks."
Wagner's is the second megadeal completed by the Seahawks in two days. Quarterback Russell Wilson signed a four-year, $87.6 million contract extension before training camp began Friday.
When word of Wagner's deal got out Saturday night, Wilson tweeted, "My bro!!!! #BigTime."
On Friday, Wagner expressed some annoyance that his deal was not yet done, responding to a question about a deadline by saying, "Now. That's my deadline."
"If it happens, it happens," he said. "All I know is at the end of the season you all know that I'm the best linebacker in this league, and that's my focus. Everything else will take care of itself."
Head coach Pete Carroll was emphatic Friday that the Seahawks plan to sign him soon.
"We're on it," Carroll said. "Whoever thought that we were done with that thing, that was not right. We're on it, and we're going to keep competing to get that done. We have planned for this for a long time, and nothing has changed at all in that. Our guys are working at it by the hour."
Wagner, 25, has recorded 363 combined tackles and nine sacks in three NFL seasons since being selected in the second round of the 2012 draft out of Utah State. He made his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams last season when he made 104 tackles and two sacks.
Wagner has started 40 of the 41 regular-season games he's played. He also has five interceptions, 13 passes defensed and one fumble recovery. In eight postseason games (all starts) he has totaled 82 tackles, two interceptions and three passes defensed.
11/23/14 - MLB Bobby Wagner returned to the defense and helped Seattle's stout running game return to form Sunday. He tied for the team lead with eight tackles as the Seahawks held Arizona to 64 rushing yards.
11/19/14 - MLB Bobby Wagner, who missed five games with a torn ligament in his toe, practiced Wednesday and may be back on the field Sunday against Arizona. Wagner said prior to practice he thought he had a good chance to play.
11/17/14 - MLB Bobby Wagner, who has been sidelined with a toe injury since the Dallas game Oct. 12, has a chance to play this week, coach Pete Carroll said. If so, that would finally bring back to full health and linebacking corps that has battled injuries all season.
11/15/14 - LB Bobby Wagner is out of Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs with a toe injury.
