07/23/13 - QB Matt Brown was released by Green Bay. Brown, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound rookie out of Illinois State, was signed by Green Bay as a non-drafted free agent on May 10.
12/01/12 - Matt Brown threw for five touchdowns and 322 yards and Illinois State blocked the game-tying PAT in overtime to beat Appalachian State 38-37 Saturday in the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. Brown, who was voted 2012 Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was 20-of-32 passing for the Redbirds, who made their first playoff appearance since 2006 and handed Appalachian State (8-4) its third-straight postseason loss. Illinois State (9-3) entered the fourth quarter with a 28-17 lead but Appalachian State outscored the Redbirds 14-3 in the quarter to send the game into overtime.
After Brown threw his fifth touchdown of the day - a 25-yarder to James O'Shaughnessy that gave Illinois State a 38-31 overtime lead - Jamal Jackson and Appalachian State answered three plays later with a touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 38-37. 10/27/12 - Matt Brown threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as Illinois State beat Northern Iowa 33-21 on Saturday night. Brown was 22 of 27 for 274 yards and two touchdowns - a 76-yard pass to Tyrone Walker and a 49-yard pass to James O'Shaughnessy. Brown kept the ball and scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter. Cameron Hunt got the scoring started for Illinois State (7-2, 4-2 Missouri Valley) with a 19-yard run into the end zone. Darrelynn Dunn rushed in for a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth for the Redbirds. Sawyer Kollmorgen was 20 of 48 for 218 yards for Northern Iowa (2-6, 1-4). Kollmorgen kept the ball for the Panthers first touchdown, scoring on a 6-yard run. He later threw a 2-yard TD pass to Chad Owens. 10/16/12 - OCT 15 MISSOURI VALLEY OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: QB Matt Brown, Illinois State 6-4, 235, Sr., Marion (Ill.) High...Brown bounced back from the worst game of his career to lead the Redbirds to a come-from-behind victory over No. 8 Youngstown State Saturday at Hancock Stadium. The Marion, Ill., native threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns and scored the game-winning touchdown on a quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for ISU. With his 225 yards passing, Brown surpassed the 9,000 yards passing plateau and now has 9,028 in his career. Brown now sits just 61 yards behind UNI's Ryan Helming (9,089) for the top spot on the Missouri Valley Football Conference all-time list. - Missouri Valley football
