Draft Scout Nick Mangold News
02/08/18 - C Nick Mangold, formerly of the New York Jets, is still mulling a return to the field, but he made a decision about participating in a different arena on Thursday. Following a published report that said he was considering running for a Congressional seat, Mangold nixed the notion via social media. "I am not running for Congress," Mangold wrote on his Twitter account Thursday afternoon. "While it would be an amazing opportunity and honor to serve the people of New Jersey's District 11, I am not at a place where I could commit to that. I like to investigate every opportunity that comes to me and this one will not go any further. However I do appreciate the support that was given in my short period of possibly thinking about running for Congress." Mangold missed the entire 2017 season following ankle surgery, but he has not completely closed the door on a return.
02/03/18 - C Nick Mangold missed the 2017 season but is considering a return to the field -- if he's healthy.
Mangold, a longtime standout for the New York Jets, told the New York Post that he's not "closing the door" on playing again.
Cut by the Jets a year ago after a foot injury ended his 2016 season, Mangold said his surgically repaired ankle continued to bother him in 2017, preventing him from seriously entertaining any offers to play.
02/26/17 - C Nick Mangold was waived by the Jets on Saturday after 11 seasons with the team in a cost-saving move. The 33-year-old Mangold, a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, who doesn't plan to retire, was heading into the final year of his contract. He was slated to take up $9.075 million in salary cap space with his $6.075 million base salary and $2.4 million bonus for training camp.
12/08/16 - C Nick Mangold (ankle) is back in a walking boot and unlikely to play this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Mangold originally hurt his ankle against the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 23 and missed the next four games before returning for Monday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts. But Mangold aggravated the injury and head coach Todd Bowles admitted Tuesday that Mangold could miss the rest of the season.
12/08/16 - C Nick Mangold (ankle) was placed on injured reserve by the New York Jets on Thursday. The seven-time Pro Bowl selection was nursing an ailing ankle for nearly two months before aggravating the injury late in Monday's 41-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The 32-year-old Mangold flew to North Carolina on Thursday to visit with specialist Dr. Robert Anderson for a second opinion before the Jets opted to end his season.
