Draft Scout Ryan Allen News
07/26/15 - P Ryan Allen signed a three-year contract extension with the Patriots Sunday (July 26). The deal takes Allen through the 2018 season, according to multiple reports.
Allen, 25, has the option to renegotiate after two seasons, the Boston Globe reported. The move comes 10 days after the Patriots signed Stephen Gostkowski to a four-year deal worth $17.2 million, an extension that made him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL.
Allen would have been a restricted free agent after the 2015 season and potentially an unrestricted free agent after the 2016 season.
Allen, a left-footed punter, made the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech in 2013. He has punted in every game for the Patriots over the last two seasons (32 regular season, five in the playoffs).
Last season, Allen ranked 10th in the NFL with a 46.4-yard average and 12th in net punting (39.9). In two seasons with the Patriots, he has averaged 46.1 yards per punt with a net average of 40.2. He put 25 of his 66 punts inside the 20 during the 2014 regular season.
12/10/14 - P Ryan Allen was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his impressive work in the win in San Diego last Sunday night. Allen notched a 49.4-yard average on his five punts in the game, placing four of those kicks inside the Chargers 13-yard line (13, 10, 11 and 10). Allen's impressive night included a 44-yard net average and a long punt of 60 yards.
Allen's award marks the Patriots fifth AFC Player of the Week honor this season. RB Jonas Gray and QB Tom Brady won on offense, DE Chandler Jones on defense and DT Chris Jones on special teams.
01/15/14 - P Ryan Allen (shoulder) was limited in practice on Wednesday. Allen was knocked out of the divisional round win after chasing down an errant snap that led to a safety against the Colts.
01/13/14 - P Ryan Allen left the divisional round victory over the Colts with a right shoulder injury late in the second quarter and did not return. The rookie suffered the injury chasing down an errant punt snap that led to a safety. He stayed into the game for the ensuing free kick, but then went to the locker room and did not return.
09/02/13 - P Ryan Allen, the undrafted rookie, not only beat out veteran Zoltan Mesko for the punting job in New England but will also take over the job as holder for kicker Stephen Gostkowski's field goals and PATs.
