Draft Scout Vick Ballard News
08/26/14 - RB Vick Ballard was placed on reserve/injured by the Colts Tuesday.
07/27/14 - RB Vick Ballard is out for the season following a non-contact Achilles injury suffered during practice Friday.
It is the second injury setback in two seasons for the third-year veteran. The 5-foot-10, 224-pound running back from Mississippi State was returning to action after sitting out most of the 2013 season with a torn right ACL.
This latest injury occurred early in the Friday workout. Ballard was not hit on the play, but came up limping after catching a pass and was helped off the field by trainers and taken to the locker room.
After an MRI was performed Friday night, the injury was confirmed Saturday morning. He will have season-ending surgery. His ACL injury last year also occurred on a non-contact play in practice.
07/26/14 - There is more bad news for Vick Ballard.
The Colts' running back tore his left Achilles tendon during Friday's training camp practice and could be lost for the season, ESPN reported. Ballard fell to the turf after catching a pass on a non-contact play and was headed for an MRI to confirm the diagnosis.
Ballard, who left the field on a golf cart after initially limping, was coming back after playing in only one game last season for the Colts because of a torn ACL in his right knee.
"When you see someone like Vick Ballard go down who's worked so hard to get back, it's tough, but it happens," Colts owner Jim Irsay said, according to ESPN. "As soon as you get to camp, those things happen. He's still young, and he's got a full career ahead of him, so we have to do an MRI and see exactly what it is and then go from there. But you really hope to not hear any of that kind of news."
As a rookie in 2012, Ballard ran for a team-leading 814 yards and scored two touchdowns. In last year's season opener, he rushed for 63 yards on 13 carries before suffering the torn ACL.
07/24/14 - RB Vick Ballard has been cleared to participate in training camp after missing most of last season with a torn ACL. Ballard, though, is expected to start camp on a limited basis. He said that he will go through most drills.
09/19/13 - RB Vick Ballard (knee) was placed on injured reserve last Saturday.
