10/23/13 - The career of Indiana State senior running back Shakir Bell, a runner-up for the 2011 Walter Payton Award, is over. Indiana State first-year coach Mike Sanford told the Terre Haute Tribune- Star on Tuesday that the reason was a foot injury, although Bell tweeted he was dismissed from the team, then later took down his tweets. There was no word official announcement from the Missouri Valley Conference university.
Bell has battled injuries throughout the season. On 78 carries, he accumulated 420 yards and one touchdown. In 2011, Bell ran for 1,670 yards and 14 touchdowns and tied for second place for the Payton Award which honors the FCS outstanding player. In four years with the program, Bell rushed for 4,214 yards with 30 career touchdowns. He was just 121 yards behind the school's record holder, Vincent Allen. - Sports Network

09/29/13 - SEPT 30 MISSOURI VALLEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEE: RB Shakir Bell, Indiana State - Had a 25-carry, 201-yard performance on the road against Tennessee Tech. He had a long of 69 yards in the game and his six-yard touchdown run came mid-way through the third quarter. He led the Sycamores with six receptions for 68 yards and had a 31-yard touchdown reception. - Missouri Valley Conference football
08/29/13 - Indiana State lost record-setting running back Shakir Bell with a separated right shoulder late in the first half of Thursday night's season opener at Indiana. Bell landed hard on his shoulder at the end of long run with 1:20 left in the first half. He was helped to the bench and returned for the second half in street clothes. He is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks. A team spokesman said X-rays for a broken collarbone were negative.
Bell, a two-time finalist for the Walter Payton Award, the Football Championship Subdivision's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. He ran 18 times for 113 yards before leaving and needs 429 yards to break the school's career rushing mark and 840 to break the Missouri Valley Football Conference career record. - AP Sports

Warren Central,...Bell, a member of the Preseason All-MVFC First Team, is a two-time All-MVFC selection and has already been named to numerous Preseason All-American Teams as well this summer. He was the MVFC Offensive Player of the Year in 2011 as well as a finalist for that season's Walter Payton Award. He was named earlier this month to the 2013 Walter Payton Award Watch List for the third consecutive season.
He enters the 2013 campaign with 3,794 rushing yards for his career which is third on the Sycamore all-time list. He needs just 542 yards on the ground during his senior campaign to become Indiana State's all-time leading rusher and eclipse the total of 4,335 yards set by Vincent Allen from 1973-77. His 3,794 career rushing yards ranks 11th all-time in the history of the Missouri Valley Football Conference and he needs 953 to top Herb Donaldson's record of 4,746 set from 2005-08 at Western Illinois. - Indiana State football
