Draft Scout *Blake Bortles News
01/31/18 - QB Blake Bortles remains the quarterback the Jaguars are counting on, despite the availability of Kirk Cousins, according to NFL.com. Bortles led the Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game, where they lost to the New England Patriots, even though he has not been highly regarded and was criticized roundly by Jacksonville fans. Cousins, who was a starter for the Washington Redskins the past three seasons, is about to become a free agent, and there was speculation that he would be given the franchise tag. That was before the Redskins traded for quarterback Alex Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday night.
01/29/18 - QB Blake Bortles had surgery on his right wrist Friday for a condition that kept him on the Jaguars' injury report for the entire 2017 season, according to a report by ESPN's Adam Schefter. Schefter reports that Bortles dealt with the condition since December of 2016, but the Jaguars opted not to have him undergo surgery last offseason. Bortles passed for 3,687 yards and 21 touchdowns during the regular season before winning the first two playoff games of his career this season.
01/22/18 - QB Blake Bortles was 23 of 36 for 293 yards and one touchdown as the Jaguars, playing in their third conference title game, failed to make it to their first Super Bowl -- despite the guarantee by cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
01/18/18 - QB Blake Bortles is glad that the Jaguars had several practice days with the New England Patriots prior to the teams meeting in a preseason game in August. "It definitely helped out," he said. "I think going up there and getting to go up there for three days, and then obviously play against them even though it was preseason and practice in camp and all that. I think to get a little bit of familiarity with personnel and then scheme as well, obviously they have done stuff all year that is different. I am sure we will see things that are different and they have changed."
01/15/18 - QB Blake Bortles completed 14-of-26 passes for 214 yards and one touchdown. He wasn't sacked and had no turnovers.
"To be able to come here and do that against a team like Pittsburgh, it will never change for me. Everybody is in the NFL here. It's the highest level of football there is in the world. It's tough to say that someone is not a good player or is trash."
