Boyd also tallied four of his tackles in the final quarter, helping the Tops to close out the game strong with a pair of TFLs including the sack-safety. With his performance, Boyd kept his hold on the nation’s lead in total sacks (6.5) and is second nationally in tackles for loss (11.5). Boyd has recorded double-digit tackles in each of the Tops’ first four games after recording just three double-digit performances all of last season. Additionally, the linebacker picked up three tackles for loss, including a pair of sacks, and forced one fumble, his first of the year.
Boyd now leads the Hilltoppers and the conference in tackles for loss (9.5), sacks (5.5), assisted and unassisted tackles (22/23) and total tackles (45). Boyd’s 9.5 TFLs are five more than the next closest player in the SBC and rank him third nationally in the category. - Sun Belt football
12/26/12 - Scouting the run defense: Western Kentucky has been good against the run all year long, a staple of defensive coordinator Lance Guidry's defense. Allowing 138.25 ypg, four of WKU's top 14 tacklers reside on the defensive line. One of those four, DE Quanterus Smith, will not play with an ACL injury, meaning the Tops' front four may be a little more breakable than before. - The Sports Xchange
