08/18/14 - Duke says tight end Braxton Deaver will miss the season after tearing a knee ligament. Team officials said Deaver injured his right anterior cruciate ligament Monday. Coach David Cutcliffe says the Blue Devils will "miss his presence on the field" but that "the priorities with Braxton right now shift to his health and spirit." Deaver was one of the top targets for quarterback Anthony Boone. The redshirt senior was the returning starter at tight end and caught 46 passes for 600 yards with four touchdowns last season. Deaver is the second key player from the defending Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division champions who has been lost for the season with a torn ACL. Senior linebacker Kelby Brown tore his left ACL during a scrimmage last week. - AP Sports
07/30/14 - 2014 PRESEASON JOHN MACKEY AWARD WATCH LIST: Braxton Deaver, Sr, Duke...Deaver, a 6-5, 240-pound native of Charlotte, N.C., was a third team All-ACC choice in 2013 after hauling in 46 receptions for 600 yards and four touchdowns, all totals that ranked second among ACC tight ends. Deaver had multiple receptions in every game in 2013, including six for a career-high 116 yards in Duke’s 52-48 loss to No. 20 Texas A&M in the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
A preseason All-ACC second team pick by Athlon Sports, Lindy’s Sports and Phil Steele, Deaver also keyed Duke’s 35-22 comeback win against Virginia on October 19, scoring back-to-back touchdowns in the fourth quarter covering 47 and 24 yards to help Duke overcome a 22-0 deficit. Deaver was also a selection to ESPN’s All-Bowl Team for his performance in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. - Duke football
07/07/14 - Other Duke prospects to watch in 2014: TE Braxton Deaver...Third-team All-ACC member as a junior (40 catches), with sure hands and sneaky acceleration down the seam, but who struggles as a blocker and doesn't exhibit athleticism to suggest he could be a dynamic "move" tight end option at the next level despite carrying a leaner frame. Improved run-blocking and some added weight without slowing down could lead to an NFL opportunity. - Derek Stephens, NFLDraftScout.com
