 Draft Scout Ahmad Dixon News
01/01/14 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: Baylor S Ahmad Dixon is a lightning rod for controversy and a catalyst for the Bears. He was suspended for the first half of the Texas game after being ejected in the second half against TCU for targeting. Once he returned to the Texas game, the Bears went on a 17-0 surge that helped put away the Longhorns. But Dixon drew a celebration penalty that negated K.J. Morton's touchdown on an interception return. - The Sports Xchange

11/11/13 - NFL DRAFT WEEK 11 STOCK REPORT, PROSPECTS WHO HELPED THEMSELVES: SS Ahmad Dixon, Baylor...Baylor is known for their explosive offensive attack, but the Bears have some playmakers on defense as well, most notably Dixon who patrols the entire field. Against Oklahoma last Thursday, he showed off his range and versatility, making plays in the deep half of the field and also at the line of scrimmage. Dixon finished with a team-best 10 tackles, adding a tackle for loss and a pass break-up. He is extremely fast downhill and loves to get his hands dirty in the run game, striking through his target with strong hands to finish.

Dixon has an accurate first step with the quickness and range to play both sidelines with an alert, active mentality. He still needs some technique and recognition work when it comes to coverage, but he displays the feet and overall body coordination to hold up on an island if needed. It wasn't all positive as he did receive a 15-yard penalty for removing his helmet while still on the field of play, but it was a strong performance for Dixon, who might be the top strong safety prospect for the 2014 NFL Draft. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com

10/07/13 - Baylor is not going to draw attention with its defense, especially after beating West Virginia in a 73-42 shootout. Still, that scoring total for the Mountaineers is a bit misleading since the Bears led 56-14 at halftime and their second string played the fourth quarter when West Virginia posted three touchdowns. One of those came on an interception return on a pass thrown by Baylor backup QB Seth Russell.

During its time on the field, the first-team defense constantly harassed West Virginia QB Clint Trickett, enabling him to complete just nine of 28 passes for 161 yards. Trickett was sacked twice and also threw an interception. A week earlier, the Florida State transfer was instrumental in leading West Virginia to a 30-21 upset of Oklahoma State. "We're not satisfied," S Ahmad Dixon told the Waco Tribune. "We get points put on us, it's going to hurt us. Coach did a great job of putting us in position to make plays, and we did. But our second team gave up big-time plays, and we have to take ownership."

Pride in performance is critical. The Bears could simply shrug at any defensive breakdowns, knowing their offense is explosive enough to overcome mistakes, particularly after outgaining West Virginia 864-394 in yardage. In spite of the breakneck pace, Baylor maintained possession (30:30) just a shade longer than West Virginia, a stat the Bears defense appreciates. - The Sports Xchange
