 Draft Scout *Kony Ealy News
08/28/17 - DE Kony Ealy was claimed by the Jets on Sunday, the team confirmed, one day after the pass rusher was waived by the Patriots. A second-round pick in 2014, Ealy was acquired by the Patriots in a March trade with the Carolina Panthers. "I just think it's one of those things that didn't work out or wasn't going to work out," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Saturday after Ealy was waived. "Nobody's fault. He worked hard. We worked hard. A lot of effort put in, but in the end, we didn't feel like this was going to work out."
08/28/17 - DE Kony Ealy was claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots on Sunday. Ealy, who played with Jets DT Sheldon Richardson at Missouri, had 14 sacks for the Carolina Panthers the previous three seasons and will challenge for a pass-rushing specialist role with the Jets.
08/26/17 - DL Kony Ealy, who was acquired in a trade with the Carolina Panthers in March, was released by the New England Patriots on Saturday. The 25-year-old Ealy played three NFL seasons with the Panthers after entering the NFL as a second-round draft pick (60th overall) by the Panthers in 2014. Last season, Ealy played in 16 games, with six starts, and finished with 32 total tackles, five sacks, three passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
07/27/17 - DE Kony Ealy did not practice in New England's opening training camp session. The trade addition from the Carolina Panthers watched the workout and did some rehab-type work with teammates. Ealy also missed the final couple of days of spring practice/OTAs for unknown reasons, so the disappointing former second-round pick of the Panthers is off to a tough start with the Patriots.
03/10/17 - DE Kony Ealy was traded by the Carolina Panthers, along with a third-round draft pick, to the New England Patriots for a second-round draft choice, ESPN reported Friday. Ealy became expendable when the Panthers re-acquired defensive end/outside linebacker Julius Peppers, who played the last three seasons for the Green Bay Packers. Ealy's best game came in Super Bowl 50 against the Denver Broncos following the 2015 season. He posted three sacks and a forced fumble in that game and might have been the MVP if the Panthers had won. He had five sacks in 16 games, including nine starts, during the 2015 regular season, and had five sacks in 16 games, including six starts, in 2016.
