 Draft Scout Jerry Gates News
12/26/13 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: Bowling Green has four veterans in the secondary, with CBs Aaron Foster and Cam Truss playing well. S Jerry "BooBoo" Gates is a playmaker and a two-time first-team all-conference selection. Bowling Green allows only 308.7 yards per game, eighth-best in the country. The Falcons are also fourth in the FBS, surrendering only 166.2 yards per game through the air. Gates, a safety, is the first player in school history to score touchdowns via interception, fumble, kickoff and punt returns. - The Sports Xchange
12/06/13 - 2013 ALL-MAC FIRST TEAM: Defensive Back - BooBoo Gates, Bowling Green...Gates, a senior captain from Middletown, Ohio, has been named first team all-MAC for the second straight year. A strong safety, Gates has 57 tackles, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries on the season. He is the first player in school history to score touchdowns via interception, fumble, kickoff and punt returns. - Bowling Green football
12/06/13 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: By the numbers, the Falcons have the best defense in the Mid-American Conference. Bowling Green won the East Division title by winning at Buffalo last Friday. The Falcons are ranking fifth in the country in scoring defense, allowing 13.8 points per game. Last season, Bowling Green allowed 16.8 points per contest. Bowling Green's defensive line is one of its strengths, holding teams in check running the ball, while an experienced group of secondary members in BooBoo Gates, Ryland Ward and Cameron Truss headline the back seven. - The Sports Xchange
11/11/13 - WEEK 11 MAC EAST DIVISION DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bowling Green DB BooBoo Gates...Senior defensive back BooBoo Gates (Middletown, Ohio) recovered two fumbles, including one that he returned for a touchdown, in a 45-3 win at Miami. The two recovered fumbles were his career high for a single game.

In the third quarter, Gates scooped up his second fumble recovery of the game, taking it to the end zone for an 11-yard score. It was the fourth different way that Gates has scored a touchdown in his career (fumble recovery return, interception return, kickoff return, and punt return), the first Falcon in program history to accomplish that feat. Gates also added four tackles in the game. - MAC football

09/16/13 - Bowling Green's defense took a beating at Indiana. The Hoosiers scored 14 points in the second and fourth quarters, while adding single touchdowns in the first and third to dominate the Falcons. Bowling Green allowed 35 unanswered points. This from a team that's considered one of the best in the East Division with a solid defense filled with playmakers. Indiana was picked to lose this game by several experts. "Credit to Indiana, they made plays and we didn't," Bowling Green coach Dave Clawson said. "All the things we've been doing well the first two games, we didn't do well today." - The Sports Xchange
