 Draft Scout *Justin Hunter News
08/08/17 - WR Justin Hunter was signed to a low-risk one-year contract, and he made an impression during the first week of camp. Hunter received most of the first-team reps due to Martavis Bryant and Sammie Coates being out due to a suspension and an injury. "He's making a lot of plays and is doing a good job," coach Mike Tomlin said. "But he's a veteran football player. Although he's new to us, he's going into his fifth year and it shows from time to time."
08/01/17 - WR Justin Hunter is getting the chance to run with the first-team offense because of injuries to WRs receivers Sammie Coates and JuJu Smith-Schuster and the absence of Martavis Bryant. Hunter, who was signed to a one-year deal in March, has to impress in order to make the 53-man roster. He is off to a good start. Hunter has made several nice catches in the first few days of practice, including a touchdown reception in a goal-line offense period. "They told me I'm the next man up," Hunter said. "I'm just trying to make the most of my opportunities." Hunter could be getting an extended look. Coates is not expected to practice until mid-August and there has been no update from the team on Bryant's situation with the NFL. The Steelers announced Thursday that Bryant still had not been fully reinstated and as a result could not practice with the team. Bryant is allowed to take part in off-field activities, but he has not been seen much around campus. When asked directly whether Bryant was with the team, Tomlin said yes.
03/15/17 - WR Justin Hunter and the Steelers agreed on a one-year deal, according to multiple reports. Hunter, 25, saw four of his 10 catches go for touchdowns and had 189 receiving yards in 12 games with the Bills last season. He has 78 career receptions for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns since being selected by the Titans with a second-round pick in the 2013 draft.
10/24/16 - WR Justin Hunter got his first start for the Bills. Claimed on waivers earlier this season, Hunter caught only two passes for 25 yards.
10/17/16 - WR Justin Hunter is trying to provide a much-needed lift for Buffalo's sagging passing attack. Signed as a free agent a few weeks ago after being cut by the Titans, the former second-round pick from Tennessee is trying to resurrect his career, and so far, he has two catches for Buffalo, and both have gone for touchdowns. Last week in Los Angeles he caught a four-yard scoring pass from Tyrod Taylor, and Sunday against the 49ers he caught a 30-yarder. After playing very little against the Rams, Hunter was on the field for 58 percent of the snaps against the 49ers. He was targeted only twice, but at least he's making plays when given the chance. "I had an inside corner route and he played outside and I just tried to beat the safety with speed," Hunter said of his touchdown. "Tyrod told me right before the play, if he plays this type of way, he's going to throw it up. He did it. I'm feeling pretty comfortable, but I still need to learn certain things. But coming along good. You know, coach is on me, studying extra and all that. It's going to come."
