Draft Scout Bruce Irvin News
09/17/15 - LB Bruce Irvin did not practice on Thursday due to a rib injury and was a new addition to the team's injury report. With Mike Morgan out due to a hamstring injury, the Seahawks may have to move K.J. Wright to Irvin's strong-side linebacker spot and have Kevin Pierre-Louis replace Wright to fill out their group if Irvin is unable to play.
08/27/15 - LB Bruce Irvin is expected to play after undergoing the concussion protocol earlier in the week after taking a hard hit at Kansas City last Friday. Irvin remained in the game.
08/24/15 - DE Bruce Irvin is undergoing the concussion protocol this week after being injured against the Chiefs. But he came back in to play after being hurt clearing initial tests on the field and the team sounds confident it is not a major issue.
08/10/15 - LB Bruce Irvin said he put on 18 pounds during the off-season, getting to almost 260, and has drawn raves from coaches so far for his performance, using his increased strength to make him that much more effective rushing the passer.
05/04/15 - LB Bruce Irvin, who did not have his fifth-year option picked up by the Seahawks, has taken out his frustration on social media.
Irvin wrote on Twitter with a series of tweets Monday morning -- some of them profanity-laced -- that revealed his feelings about not receiving the option. The Seahawks would have been on the hook to pay Irvin $7.8 million in 2016.
"Worked for everything I got in my life this s--- will b no different!" Irvin tweeted early Monday. "I earns my keeps!"
The deadline to pick up the option was Sunday. Irvin will play this season at $1.5 million and become a free agent at the end of the year.
"Faced way tougher adversity getting outta them streets coming up!" Irvin tweeted. "That's s--- is nothing!
(EXPLETIVE) THAT OPTION!"
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll talked after the draft on Saturday about his plans for Irvin.
"If we pick up Bruce's option it's a great thing, if we don't pick up Bruce's option it only means we aren't picking it up. ... We want him to be here for a long time," Carroll said.
Carroll said he met with Irvin before the draft to lay out the possible scenarios.
"We met with Bruce (Thursday) before we got going, and it went very well," Carroll said. "We discussed what our plan is and what we are planning on doing, still knowing that maybe something could happen that could change the decision. It has nothing to do with the statement of how we feel about him in our program. We expect him to be here for a long time and we will work to get that done."
The 27-year-old Irvin was a first-round draft choice out of West Virginia in 2012. Irvin had 6.5 sacks in the regular season in 2014 and two more in the playoffs. He also had two interceptions, both returned for touchdowns.
"I'm a very blunt person and that won't ever change," Irvin tweeted. "Sorry if u dislike it. Gonna teach bray (his son, Brayden) to be the same way."
