Draft Scout John Jenkins News
08/16/14 - NT John Jenkins, who had a torn pec in the offseason, didn't play Friday night after coming off the physically unable to perform list last week.
08/11/14 - NT John Jenkins, a second-year pro, has been working on the side with trainers as he recovered from a torn pectoral muscle that he apparently suffered early in the team's offseason workouts this spring.
Jenkins didn't line up in seven-on-seven work or team drills, but he did participate in individual drills Monday.
He went one-on-one with center Tim Lelito twice during the drills, overpowering him once when Lelito slipped, and then battled to a draw the second time they squared off.
Saints coach Sean Payton said they'll be careful not to rush Jenkins, a third-round draft pick last season, back too quickly. But he seemed pleased to know that Jenkins, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 359 pounds, hadn't gained a lot of weight while he was sidelined from strenuous drills.
"I'd say it's difficult sometimes when you're injured and you're a bigger guy," Payton said of Jenkins, who started early last year when Brodrick Bunkley was hurt. "It's tough to be injured and still get the workouts in as necessary. His weight last year was solid, but it's something he's conscientious of."
08/05/14 - NT John Jenkins remains on the physically unable to perform list after apparently having offseason surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.
07/22/14 - NT John Jenkins (pectoral) was declared active/physically unable to perform by the Saints Monday (July 21).
06/12/14 - NT John Jenkins, who hasn't been on the field for the two OTAs and three veteran minicamp practices open to media this spring, has apparently had surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle.
According to an NFL.com report this week, Jenkins will be sidelined until the start of training camp. Payton declined to comment on the report after the first minicamp practice Tuesday, saying the club would not discuss injuries to players.
Payton said the Saints would closely monitor Jenkins and any other players who have not been participating in drills at offseason practices or minicamps.
A third-round draft pick in 2013, Jenkins rotated with Brodrick Bunkley at nose tackle last season and is expected to play the same role again in 2014.
