Draft Scout Snapshot: A closer look at the Jaguars' picks: Round 1/2 -- Luke Joeckel, T, 6-6, 306, Texas A&M ... Jacksonville got the player it coveted more than anybody. Even though he's a three-year starter at left tackle, he'll be moved to right tackle to give the Jaguars bookend tackles in Eugene Monroe and Joeckel. He won the Outland Trophy as the best offensive lineman in college last year. The Jaguars are counting on that ability to carry over to the NFL for the next decade. QUOTE TO NOTE: "I always pride myself on being a nasty player. When people question my nastiness, I feel like they're questioning my manhood a little bit too." - Jaguars first-round draft pick, offensive tackle Luke Joeckel when asked about being a nasty player. - The Sports Xchange

04/29/13 - A closer look at the Jaguars' picks: Round 1/2 -- Luke Joeckel, T, 6-6, 306, Texas A&M ... 04/29/13 - Shortly after he was the selected No. 2 in the NFL draft by the Jaguars, Luke Joeckel started spewing about how he would be playing with a chip on his shoulder. Hard to believe someone taken that high in the draft could be that upset, but that's an indication of the competitiveness of the former Texas A&M standout.

Joeckel, the 2012 Outland Trophy winner, told the local media that he had set his sights on being the No. 1 pick in the draft. He couldn't even say he was the first offensive lineman or the first tackle selected. That distinction went to Central Michigan's Eric Fisher who was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs as the first overall pick. "I'm a competitor and I think every guy in New York at the draft was fighting to be the No. 1 pick. We all want to be that No. 1 pick," Joeckel said. "I think this whole thing, going two, is just going to drive me more. I'm a very competitive guy. Every guy that was down in New York was competing for that first pick. Not getting that and having another tackle go before me, that puts a chip on my shoulder. "It's going to help me work harder, especially with another offensive tackle going in front of me is going to help me work harder because I'll always want to be the best. I understand now that even being the No. 2 pick doesn't even matter, I still have to prove myself." - The Sports Xchange

04/29/13 - Not only did the 6-6, 306-pounder miss out on being the No. 1 pick, one of the first thing he'll likely be asked when he reports to the Jaguars, is to change positions. With incumbent five-year veteran Eugene Monroe firmly implanted at the left tackle spot, Joeckel will be penciled in as the Jaguars' starter at right tackle from Day 1. He says he'll be ready to begin his NFL career at a new position come next fall. "I'm a very detailed guy and I definitely want to be a hundred percent comfortable by the time I get out there on the field on Sundays," he said. "I'm going to get that way because I'm a detailed guy and I'm not going to accept anything else than a hundred percent comfortableness." - The Sports Xchange
04/29/13 - Jaguars view Joeckel as foundation piece...The Jaguars got their man. They're hoping they got him for the next 10 years. In selecting offensive tackle Luke Joeckel as the No. 2 overall pick of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, the Jaguars took a significant step in filling one of their numerous needs. The offensive line was porous a year ago, as the Jaguars were one of just three NFL teams to allow 50 or more sacks. The pressure on quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne was relentless at times. Cameron Bradfield and Guy Whimper shared starting duties at the right tackle spot, and allowed a good number of the sacks. Whimper has since been released, Bradfield could follow in the coming months.

All of which would indicate that Joeckel will become an immediate starter at the right tackle spot, even though he has been a left tackle throughout his career at Texas A&M. The Jaguars are set with Eugene Monroe at the left tackle spot and won't be as inclined to move the fifth-year veteran to the opposite side of the line. Joeckel was a starter in all 39 games during his three-year career at Texas A&M, starting 13 games each season. He declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season when he helped lead the Aggies to a No. 5 final BCS ranking. - The Sports Xchange

04/29/13 - Joeckel started each game at left tackle, where he had task of protecting the blind side of Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel. He did his job about as well as anyone and was awarded the Outland Trophy as the nation's best offensive lineman. That was enough to impress Jaguars general manager David Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley, both of whom confirmed that Joeckel was their first choice, holding a slight edge over Eric Fisher, who went to the Kansas City Chiefs as the No. 1 pick of the draft. Bradley indicated that there will be an open competition at the two tackle spots, not wanting to declare whether it will be Monroe or Joeckel making the move to the right side of the line.

Monroe said earlier this spring when talk first surfaced that the Jaguars might take either Joeckel or Fisher with their pick, that he wouldn't be comfortable in making the move to right tackle. "It would be nice to keep it as is and keep his comfort level there at left tackle," Bradley said. "He's a good player. But this is how you build organizations with top picks in the offense and defensive line. We feel we have one in Eugene and now to get Luke to add to that, it's a great move for us. We're headed in the right direction with that." "He's a competitive guy. We wanted to have guys that really love football. He's extremely competitive, tough, reliable and smart. Those are the things we look for in a guy and he has all of them." - The Sports Xchange
