Draft Scout T.J. Jones News
09/04/16 - WR T.J. Jones was the most surprising of the Lions' 21 cuts on Saturday. Jones had a mediocre training camp, but he worked as the No. 4 receiver through most of the summer and still is a young player at 24 years old. With Jones now on practice squad, veteran Andre Roberts will serve as the Lions' backup at both the slot and outside receiver positions and could handle return duties on Sundays.
06/02/16 - WR TJ Jones (undisclosed) was out Thursday.
12/29/15 - WR TJ Jones caught his first career touchdown, a 29-yarder between two defenders.
12/14/15 - WR TJ Jones had four catches Sunday, doubling his career high.
08/14/15 - WR TJ Jones missed his entire rookie year, including the preseason, but looked like someone worthy of a sixth-round pick during his opportunities Thursday. He finished with a 15-yard catch and had a 9-yarder negated by a defensive penalty. He also had punt returns of 24, 20 and 14 yards, though penalties negated most of the yards on the 20- and 14-yarders.
"My initial thoughts would be that we're blocking better up front and giving guys a chance to get started and once TJ got started, he was able to make some things go," head coach Jim Caldwell said of Thursday's punt returns. "He has speed, he's slippery enough to get through some small cracks that he had there, and I think he did a very nice job."
Asked about being hit in a game for the first time since December 2013, Jones said his reaction was, "Finally."
"It was like, ĎAll right, I got hit; it's good. I feel normal, get back up,'" he said. "It's just like the football I've played in the past, so it's definitely a good feeling."
