Draft Scout Christian Jones News
12/04/13 - 2013 ALL-ACC SECOND TEAM (MEDIA): LB Christian Jones, Florida State, 6-4, 232, Sr., Winter Park, Fla. (83)...Has been selected Second Team All-ACC for the 2013 college football season by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). - Florida State football
09/19/13 - Florida State suspends two defensive starters...Florida State will be without two starters this weekend after linebacker Christian Jones and defensive tackle Eddie Goldman were suspended Thursday for an unspecified violation of team rules. The Seminoles (2-0) face FCS opponent Bethune-Cookman (3-0) on Saturday. "It is (disappointing), but it's all correctable, and it's all done," Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said, according to ESPN.com. "But we have to go abide by a certain set of guidelines."
Jones was the team's leading tackler last year and has 13 tackles and two quarterback hurries in two games this year. Goldman is a first-year starter with two tackles so far this season. Their replacements for Saturday's game will be sophomore Terrance Smith at linebacker and Demonte McAllister and Nile Lawrence-Stample on the defensive line. - The Sports Xchange
09/11/13 - Scouting the run defense: The Seminoles' third-ranked defense last season was one of the best at holding opposing rushers to under 100 yards a game. But when FSU lost three defensive linemen to the NFL, the defensive front became a big question mark. But in the line's first test Monday against Pitt, the Seminoles kept their domination up -- on the road, no less -- by holding the Panthers to 96 total yards rushing.
Even more impressive was that Pitt's top runner, Isaac Bennet, who missed much of preseason practice with an injury, returned to play in the game and was held to just 35 yards. Nevada, which ranks 33rd nationally in rushing at 219 yards a game, loves to run. The Wolfpack are actually second in the nation now with 115 total rushing attempts, behind only BYU, which notched 550 rushing yards against on Texas last Saturday. - The Sports Xchange
09/02/13 - Scouting the Florida State run defense: Florida State's run defense was phenomenal last season -- third-best on the nation -- allowing opponents' rushers an average of 92.9 yards per game and 2.75 per rush. The Seminoles lost seven starters on defense to the NFL, including three on the line, and the entire unit has a new coordinator, three-time national champion Jeremy Pruitt, the former Alabama DBs coach. Pruitt's vision is to spread out the line and constantly move linebackers and defensive backs around, instituting more blitz packages and attempting to confuse opposing offenses with a multitude of different looks, especially up front. That favors Florida State in the opener, considering Pittsburgh had the nation's 92nd-ranked rushing attack last season and that area once again could be an issue. - The Sports Xchange
08/09/13 - TOP FLORIDA STATE PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 2. LB Christian Jones (6-3, 232, 4.74)...One of the top non-pass rush linebackers in the nation, Jones moved to weakside linebacker last season as a junior and led the team in tackles with 95. A tremendous athlete, he has fluid footwork and flawlessly flips his hips to blanket tight ends or receivers down the field in coverage, but he needs to improve his awareness to turn his head and find the ball. Jones is tall and long, which he uses well in coverage, but it will also cause him to play too upright at times and he needs to improve his overall leverage, especially on tackle attempts.
He plays with excellent range and speed to chase down the action, taking proper angles in pursuit. Jones will get hung up on blocks at times, but he flashes the take-on strength to blow past blockers when he uses proper technique. Under new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt, Jones is expected to take on a larger role as a senior and will have the chance to boost his pro resume and be one of the top linebacker prospects next May. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
