09/01/13 - P Marquette King, who remained on the roster last season as an undrafted free agent following a foot injury as a potential successor to Shane Lechler, won the job as punter over veteran Chris Kluwe.
Kluwe congratulated King on his Twitter account before the Raiders made the move official.
The competition was close throughout, with King showing better leg strength as opposed to Kluwe's ability to get punts off quicker and as well as kick directionally and to the coffin corner.
King also worked diligently at his skills as a holder for Sebastian Janikowski, an area that coach Dennis Allen said would be crucial in determining the punter in 2013.
09/02/12 - Undrafted free agent punter Marquette King, who got a ton of work during training camp while Shane Lechler rehabbed from arthroscopic knee surgery, came up with a mysterious foot ailment that coach Dennis Allen said worsened on the flight to Seattle.
So when the Raiders made their cut to 53, King went on injured reserve, tying him to the club unless he is given an injury settlement.
It enabled Oakland to have some insurance with a developing punter given that Lechler is in the final season of a contract that made him the highest paid punter in the NFL.
