Draft Scout *Corey Lemonier News
06/11/13 - The San Francisco 49ers signed third-round draft pick Corey Lemonier to a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Lemonier, 6-feet-3 and 255 pounds, is a pass rusher who started 26 of 39 career games at Auburn University, finishing with 100 tackles, 17 sacks, 24 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. The two-time All-SEC honoree fell to the third round despite intriguing raw skills after struggling down the stretch in 2012 - particularly against the run - and because many scouts feel he's a defensive end/linebacker 'tweener who doesn't fit all schemes.
A defensive end for the Tigers, he's expected to transition to outside linebacker in the 49ers' 3-4 scheme. San Francisco traded the No. 93 overall pick and a seventh-round pick to the Green Bay Packers to move up to select Lemonier with the No. 88 overall selection in April.
04/28/13 - The 49ers moved up via trade with the Packers for the second time on Day 2 to draft their second edge player -- a college defensive end likely to convert to outside linebacker -- Auburn's Corey Lemonier. San Francisco gave the Packers the No. 93 pick and a seventh-round pick (No. 216) to get him with the No. 88 overall pick (third round). He got off to a good start in the 2012 season -- five sacks in the first four games -- but wasn't effective later in the season. - The Sports Xchange
04/28/13 - A closer look at the 49ers' picks: Round 3/88 -- Corey Lemonier, DE, 6-3, 255, Auburn...Lemonier will compete with the likes of Cam Johnson for a role as a rotational pass rusher. Played defensive end at Auburn, but fits better as an outside linebacker in the 49ers' 3-4 defense. - The Sports Xchange
03/06/13 - 2013 Auburn Pro Day: Corey Lemonier...Lemonier decided to stand pat on his combine results and only participated in linebacker drills with former teammate Jonathan Evans. Lemonier said afterwards that his goal was to prove he can move like a linebacker, and heís committed to being prepared for possibly playing outside linebacker in the NFL. Lemonier looked fluid in the footwork and reaction drills. Lemonier is also a high motor player, and he tried to show that by going all out in the drills. Itís unclear whether or not the decision to not compete in the 40, the bench press or the other drills will hurt his stock, but he still remains a candidate to go anywhere in the first three rounds. - Andrew Yawn, The Auburn Plainsman
03/06/13 - 2013 Auburn Pro Day: On the defensive side of the ball, most scouts wanted to see Corey Lemonier. He says the draft process is tough. "It's really time demanding especially at the combine," Lemonier said. "You go to sleep at one in the morning and wake up at four o clock in the morning. It was just very stressful. It's just four days out of the year. You just have to have fun with it. I don' think anybody knows how time demanding it is."
Most players wouldn't talk about where they think they'll be drafted. They were letting their bench presses and speed drills speak for them. But, Lemonier did show some confidence. "To be honest, I think I should go in the first (round), said Lemonier. "But, I'll just be happy to make a team and have successful career. That's my goal." These guys are among the last Auburn players that were on the national championship winning team. They hope to find that same success at the next level. - Dayne Young, WRBL TV 3 News
