Draft Scout Chris Smith News
10/03/16 - DE Chris Smith was active for the first time this season and responded with one of the six sacks that the Jaguars recorded on Sunday against the Colts.
09/04/16 - DE/DT Chris Smith earned his spot on the final roster by showing the versatility to play any of the four spots along the defensive line. Coaches have always talked about how hard Smith plays in practice and finally this season he carried that effort over to game action as well. "The conversation around Smith has always been if he could just play the way he practices and then finally this year it kind of came to fruition for him where he hasn't gotten analytical and hasn't thought as much and is just going out there and play and reacting. He's been able to convert some rushes that have been pretty impressive and also play the ring really well," said Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell.
08/26/16 - DE Chris Smith has played more snaps (88 total) in the Jaguars' first two preseason games than any other defensive player. That's fine with Smith, who wants as many reps as he can get to show the coaches he deserves a roster spot. "He's been impressive," Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said. "Look to him to get a little bit more opportunity even this week. We really want to take a look at him."
08/31/15 - DE Chris Smith saw time with the first team defense this week in lieu of the injury to Andre Branch last week. Smith was borderline as to his making the final 53-man roster but with the injury to Branch, his value is enhanced.
08/24/15 - DE Chris Smith had 33 plays against the Giants more than any other Jaguars player in the game. Smith is on the borderline whether he'll make the team's 53-man roster. There are probably 10 players ahead of Smith on the D-line right now, so he must have two strong games in the Jaguars final preseason games to help his cause.
