Draft Scout Derek Carrier News
11/27/14 - TE Derek Carrier was placed on reserve/injured by the 49ers Thursday (Nov. 27). Carrier (6-4, 241) was signed to the 49ers practice squad on September 3, 2013, after stints with Oakland and Philadelphia. Since being promoted to the active roster on November 16, 2013, he has appeared in 16 games (one start) for the 49ers, including each of the team's 11 contests this season. In 2014, Carrier registered nine receptions for 105 yards.
10/02/14 - TE Derek Carrier has been the healthiest tight end at practice this week, which makes him the most likely to play in Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 49ers are more likely to have second-stringer Vance McDonald (knee) than starter Vernon Davis (back) on Sunday. But even if McDonald is able to play, it surely would not be on a fulltime basis, so Carrier can expect a heavy workload.
09/22/14 - TE Derek Carrier started against Arizona at tight end in the absence of Vernon Davis (ankle) and Vance McDonald (knee) and made one catch for 23 yards in Sunday's loss.
09/18/14 - TE Derek Carrier appears to be in line to start Sunday at Arizona with the 49ers' top two tight ends, Vernon Davis (ankle) and Vance McDonald (knee), nursing injuries. Carrier got extensive playing time when both teammates got hurt in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears. He caught three passes for 41 yards. He could be looking at even bigger numbers this week against an Arizona defense that already has given up 16 catches, 187 yards and a touchdown to tight ends in two games this season.
09/17/14 - TE Derek Carrier lined up with the first team at 49ers practice Wednesday because of injuries to starter Vernon Davis and second-stringer Vance McDonald.
