Draft Scout Trey Watts News
11/05/15 - RB Trey Watts, who missed the first four games of the season for violating the NFL Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse, has now been suspended indefinitely for another violation of the program.
Watts' initial suspension was announced on May 29 and it took effect at the cutdown to 53 players. He was reinstated on Oct. 5 and granted a one-game roster exemption. He was then waived on Oct. 12, the day the exemption expired and signed to the practice squad three days later. Watts was then signed to the active roster on Oct. 23 and played in the Oct. 25 game against the Browns with Tre Mason sidelined by an ankle injury. Watts was inactive for this past Sunday's game against San Francisco.
Indefinite suspensions normally are for a minimum of one year for players in Stage Three of the program.
Said head coach Jeff Fisher, "It's really unfortunate for Trey. We have a program and the players have to comply with the program. Trey had an issue and it cost him the first four games of the regular season. Then, when Trey came back, Trey was good. The setback was something that took place before he was suspended. So, it ends up being another positive and so the league requires him to sit. So, unfortunately, we'll lose him for the remainder of the season. But, emotionally, psychologically and physically, he's doing good. He's on the road to recovery, if you will. So, we're pulling for him."
Asked whether the timing represented a quirk in the system, Fisher said, "No. It's just how it works. Guys have to be mindful and cognizant with what they do with their systems in both programs. There's no loopholes there, and the league's not messing around with it. We don't like the decision, but we have to respect it because it's uniform across the league."
11/04/15 - RB Trey Watts of the Rams has been suspended indefinitely for again violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
Watts' suspension without pay begins immediately, the NFL announced Wednesday.
In May, the league announced Watts' first suspension for violation of the same rule. He missed the first four games of the season.
10/23/15 - RB Trey Watts was signed by the Rams from their practice squad Friday (Oct. 23). Watts, a second-year pro, carried the ball seven times for 30 yards in 2014. He has yet to appear in a game this season. He started he season with a four-game suspension before being waived and then signed to the practice squad.
10/15/15 - RB Trey Watts was signed by the Rams to their practice squad Thursday (Oct. 15). Watts was waived Monday after he had been reinstated the week before from a league-imposed four-game suspension.
10/12/15 - RB Trey Watts was placed on waivers Monday as his exemption expired after returning last week from a four-game league suspension. Watts will be added to the practice squad once he clears waivers and could be back on the roster once the Rams decide what to do with LB Alec Ogletree, who suffered a fractured fibula in Week 4 against Arizona. Ogletree will miss at least eight weeks, so the Rams are determining whether to place him on reserve/injured, designated for return while waiting to see if they need that designation for another player.
