Draft Scout Keith Wenning News
05/12/14 - The Ravens may have acquired their eventual backup to Joe Flacco when they drafted Ball State quarterback Keith Wenning in the sixth round. The Ravens talked with veteran Brandon Weeden during free agency before he signed with the Dallas Cowboys and are planning ahead as current backup Tyrod Taylor enters the final year of his rookie contract. "Keith is a developmental quarterback," general manager Ozzie Newsome said. "(Offensive coordinator) Gary Kubiak has a lot of hope for Keith." Wenning is a two-time team captain who orchestrated 10 fourth-quarter comebacks in his career. He set school records with 11,402 career yards, 92 touchdown passes, 1,035 completions and 1,642 attempts. He also rushed for 13 touchdowns. "The more you get to know me, I feel like I'm really composed as a player," said Wenning, who had an official visit with the Ravens. "My composure, that's just the way I play the quarterback position. I'm always calm and cool under pressure. I just feel like if you do what you practice and everything that you've been through, you'll be able to rise in those type of situations."
Wenning was a four-year starter who passed for 4,148 yards as a senior with 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Now, he'll battle with Taylor. "Yes, he'll be competing," Newsome said. "If Tyrod gets the opportunity to get on the field and plays lights out, then it will be very difficult for us to be able to retain him. To already have someone here to start to develop, to work with Joe, I think is a very positive thing." - The Sports Xchange

05/06/14 - 2014 NFL Draft Quarterbacks: Keith Wenning, Ball State, 6-3, 218, 5.00...Toiled in the shadow of MAC star Jordan Lynch, who grabbed attention while leading Northern Illinois to three straight MAC championship games. Otherwise, Wenning would have been noticed for his his accuracy and field savvy as he completed 296-of-454 passes for 3,933 yards, with 34 touchdowns and only six interceptions in regular season. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange
01/14/14 - Ball State QB Keith Wenning (6-2, 219) isn't quite on the same level as Eastern Illinois QB Jimmy Garoppolo or Cornell QB Jeff Mathews on the East side, but he's separated himself as the top quarterback on the West squad. While he lacks a howitzer, Wenning's arm strength is good enough and his placement and timing has been top notch, despite a light afternoon wind. While not a lock to be drafted, Wenning has certainly helped himself through two days of practice. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
01/05/14 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: Ball State QB Keith Wenning had the misfortune of playing in the shadow of Jordan Lynch, the Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback who led Northern Illinois to three straight MAC championship games. In any other recent era, Wenning would have grabbed the offensive headlines in the conference, with his accuracy and field savvy. Wenning completed 296-of-454 passes for 3,933 yards, with 34 touchdowns and only six interceptions, so when the Cardinals attack Arkansas State, look for Wenning to try to move this team with a variety of passes. - The Sports Xchange
