Draft Scout DeAndrew White News
01/20/14 - When Phil Savage thinks of DeAndrew White, his memory takes him to 2010. White never saw the field that season as a true freshman, but Savage, the Crimson Tide's color analyst, saw plenty from his position on the sidelines during Alabama's practices. "He lit up the 'Bama defense," Savage said Sunday at the Battle House Renaissance Hotel as players and NFL scouts convened for the start of Senior Bowl week. White, who graduated in December, thought long and hard about entering the draft but opted to stay for a fifth year. White finished fourth on the Crimson Tide in receptions (32) and third in receiving yards (534) this past season. He hauled in four touchdowns, the last of which went for 67 yards in Alabama's season-ending loss to Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. In 2012, White caught eight passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns before his season came to an end by the fifth game because of a torn ACL.
In a university statement, White said he'd spoken with new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and was excited about the Crimson Tide's 2014 offense. With the respective departures of Kevin Norwood and Kenny Bell, Savage anticipates White's role in the Alabama passing game to expand. "DeAndrew White absolutely needed to go back," Savage said. "He's got to show more consistency next year. I think he's a fabulous talent. "There have been times where he's flashed that kind of ability but I think it will be his turn next year. I thought that was a real wise decision." - Andrew Gribble, Alabama Live
10/05/13 - The ball seldom hit the ground, regardless of which Alabama quarterback was throwing the passes. The top-ranked Crimson Tide's defense also held its third straight opponent out of the end zone. AJ McCarron completed 15 of 16 passes for 166 yards and four touchdowns in the first half and Alabama was brutally efficient in rolling to a 45-3 victory over Georgia State on Saturday. "That's what we were looking for," Tide wide receiver DeAndrew White said. "We try to play a perfect game. Special teams, offense, defense coming together, that's what we want."
The Tide (5-0) jumped ahead 38-0 by halftime in what might have turned into a name-your-score game against the Panthers (0-5), a first-year Football Bowl Subdivision team. McCarron led Alabama to touchdowns on each of his five possessions before leaving and set the school record for completion percentage in a game with a minimum of 15 passes. He completed his first 12 passes, putting him in a three-way tie for the Tide's third-longest streak. - AP Sports
10/01/12 - Alabama wide receiver DeAndrew White and running back Dee Hart are done for the year with knee injuries, al.com reported Monday. Both had surgery after sustaining the injuries during Saturday's 33-14 victory over Mississippi. That makes five Alabama players who are out for the season with serious injuries. White, a sophomore, went down after making a catch in the first quarter and was helped off the field and carted to the locker room. He was on crutches and not in uniform when he returned to the Alabama sideline in the second quarter. White has eight catches for 105 yards with two touchdowns this season. Hart was injured after catching a punt in the fourth quarter. He was able to jog to the sideline after getting helped up, but later headed to the locker room. Hart also missed his freshman season last year due to a knee injury a month before preseason camp began. Hart has 21 carries for 88 yards and two catches for 18 yards in five games. He also returned four punts for 50 yards. Freshman wide receiver Chris Black (shoulder), junior safety Jarrick Williams (knee) and junior fullback Jalston Fowler (knee) are also out for the season. - The Sports Xchange
09/07/12 - WR DeAndrew White had one chance to impact the game in week 1 and made it count with a 51-yard TD catch from AJ McCarron in the first quarter. It was White's only catch of the evening. - The Sports Xchange
04/19/12 - University of Alabama wide receiver DeAndrew White has been hospitalized with an apparent concussion following an altercation on University Boulevard early Thursday morning, a source close to the situation has confirmed to Tidesports.com. White is not seriously injured, according to the source. Another man was found unconscious with severe head injuries a block away. Police aren't sure whether the cases are related or how that man was injured, but the source said there were two separate incidents on the Strip.
