 Draft Scout *Mario Williams News
05/26/16 - DE Mario Williams was impressive in OTAs. Although players can't wear pads, which makes it tougher to judge offensive and defensive linemen, Williams showed the speed, agility and moves that made him a multiple Pro-Bowl selection.
03/08/16 - DE Mario Williams signed a two-year deal worth a reported $17 million with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins confirmed the move Tuesday night. Williams has totaled 96 career sacks and 153 quarterback hits during his 10-year NFL career. Williams, 31, had five sacks in 2015 and with two years left on his deal, was released before he counted $19.9 million against the salary cap next season. Releasing Williams saves the Bills $12.9 million against the salary cap. The Dolphins were in the midst of their own cap gymnastics with restructured deals for tight end Jordan Cameron, linebacker Koa Misi and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Pass rusher Cameron Wake has resisted a complete overhaul of his contract and, especially with Williams on board, is a strong candidate to be released.
03/01/16 - DE Mario Williams had his contract terminated by the Bills Tuesday (March 1). Williams, 31, had five sacks in 2015 and with two years left on his deal, was released before he counted $19.9 million against the salary cap next season. Releasing Williams saves the Bills $12.9 million against the salary cap. "We want to thank Boobie (Dixon), Kraig (Urbik) and Mario for everything they did during their years with our franchise," general manager Doug Whaley said. "Each of them contributed to our team in a unique way. Days like this are never easy and this is a part of the business that is difficult on everyone. We will now focus our attention on moving forward as we continue to prepare for free agency, the upcoming draft and the 2016 season."
01/04/16 - DE Mario Williams, probably playing his final game with the team, recorded his fifth sack of the season.
01/03/16 - DE Mario Williams may have played his final game for the Bills. With reports of his forthcoming release circulating all week, Williams had a modest impact on the game, making two tackles and recording his fifth sack of the season, which help set up good field position for the Bills' first touchdown. Williams, who signed a six-year, $96 million contract in 2012, had two tackles and one sack over his previous six games.
