Draft Scout Larry Donnell News
08/20/13 - TE Larry Donnell spent his rookie season on the Giants practice squad, so it wasn't a surprise that he received an invitation to compete for a roster spot on the final 53-man roster this year.
What has been surprising, though, is the progress Donnell has made not just as a tight end, but also as a backup fullback.
"We'd like to see if Larry Donnell can make a contribution," Giants tight ends coach Mike Pope said earlier in training camp. "Certainly size and talent-wise, he has that, but he missed all the spring and minicamps because of a broken foot, so he's virtually just starting right now."
Donnell, who last week suffered a strained knee when he landed awkwardly in practice, further endeared himself to head coach Tom Coughlin by not only dressing for last week's preseason game against the Colts, a game in which Donnell was originally not supposed to play, but also by taking five snaps and doing well with them.
"I take my hat off to Larry Donnell," said head coach Tom Coughlin, who said he had feared the worse after Donnell landed awkwardly on his knee. "His attitude really more than anything else determined that he wanted to play and he did."
01/03/13 - TE Larry Donnell was signed to a contract for 2013 by the Giants.
