Draft Scout Mike Bennett News
09/07/15 - DT Michael Bennett was limited on Monday with a right leg contusion.
05/19/15 - DT Michael Bennett, selected by the Jaguars in the sixth round of the draft (180th overall), signed a four-year contract May 15.
"I can say I'm officially an NFL football player, and I'm in the right place for it," Bennett said. "I still have a lot to do and a lot to grow with. I'm happier than I can remember, and I'm in the right place, so I'm just excited for the future. ... Now it's time to prove yourself on the field."
Bennett played in 49 games over four seasons for the Buckeyes and finished his college career with 110 tackles, 31 1/2 tackles for loss and 18 sacks.
As a senior during Ohio State's College Football Playoff national championship season in 2014, Bennett collected 14 tackles for loss, seven sacks and three forced fumbles.
05/05/15 - A closer look at the Jaguars' eight picks: Round 6/180 - Michael Bennett, DT, 6-2, 293, Ohio State...The Jaguars' belief is that you can never have enough good defensive linemen. That's why they latched onto Bennett in the sixth round, several rounds after where the Buckeyes standout was projected to go. One of the reasons for the fall is that Bennett is limited to playing a three-technique defensive tackle in a 4-3 scheme. Teams who play a 3-4 probably didn't give him much of a look. But he'll fit into the Jaguars' defensive front just fine which is why general manager Dave Caldwell made him the first interior defensive lineman selection in his three-year tenure with the Jaguars. Bennett brings some smarts with him to the Jaguars. One report said he scored a 43 on the 50-question Wonderlic test. - The Sports Xchange
03/13/15 - Ohio State Pro Day: Bennett (6-2, 293), who was unable to work out at the NFL Combine due to injury, pulled up on his 40-yard dash attempt with a hamstring problem. The injury forced him to withdraw from the other on-field drills and didn't help answer questions about his durability concerns. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
02/17/15 - 2015 DRAFT SCOUT PRE-COMBINE TOP 64 DRAFT PROSPECTS: 49/7. Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State, 6-2, 288, 4.96, 2...Bennett is a hyperactive defensive tackle with range, quickness and the mental discipline one might expect from somebody whose parents both graduated from West Point. Bennett capped a complete, four-year career with 35 tackles and six sacks in 2014 to follow up a 2013 season in which he collected 44 tackles, 11.5 for a loss and 7.5 sacks. Although he lacks great strength to throw blockers aside, Bennett relies on quick, decisive moves to slide between opponents and persistence that gives him range to do damage even when the play doesn't come his way. Bennett missed four games in 2012 with a groin injury, otherwise his opponents took more of a beating than he did. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange
