Draft Scout Mike Bennett News
02/17/15 - 2015 DRAFT SCOUT PRE-COMBINE TOP 64 DRAFT PROSPECTS: 49/7. Michael Bennett, DT, Ohio State, 6-2, 288, 4.96, 2...Bennett is a hyperactive defensive tackle with range, quickness and the mental discipline one might expect from somebody whose parents both graduated from West Point. Bennett capped a complete, four-year career with 35 tackles and six sacks in 2014 to follow up a 2013 season in which he collected 44 tackles, 11.5 for a loss and 7.5 sacks. Although he lacks great strength to throw blockers aside, Bennett relies on quick, decisive moves to slide between opponents and persistence that gives him range to do damage even when the play doesn't come his way. Bennett missed four games in 2012 with a groin injury, otherwise his opponents took more of a beating than he did. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange
02/16/15 - 2015 NFL COMBINE: PROSPECTS WITH THE MOST TO GAIN OR LOSE, VERIFIED MEASUREMENTS: DT Michael Bennett, Ohio State...One of the unsung heroes of the Buckeyes' national title run, Bennett was a consistent inside penetrator down the stretch for Ohio State in 2014. But his lack of size might limit him at the next level to a three-technique role in a four-man front. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
08/08/14 - Ohio State's NFL Draft-Eligible prospects to watch in 2014: 2. DT Michael Bennett, Senior...The defensive line is the strength of the Buckeyes' defense and Bennett is the senior member of the group with 15 starts under his belt entering his senior season. He is a highly active interior rusher with range and quickness, finishing the 2013 season with 42 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks and three forced fumbles. Bennett displays outstanding balance and coordination through contact to work of blocks and keep his feet to be a factor in plays.
He “wins” with quickness out of his stance and uses his leverage, leg drive and strong grip to latch-and-rip past blockers and penetrate the backfield. Bennett isn't a people mover and lacks overwhelming strength to bully, struggling to shock blockers with his hands at the point of attack. But he uses his high motor and backfield vision to put himself in position to make a play, allowing his controlled footwork and smooth hips to do the rest. Viewed as a solid top-50 prospect and maybe the top senior at his position, Bennett reminds me some of Packers defensive lineman Mike Daniels who has the versatility to line up in different schemes and be at the very least a pass rush specialist. - Dane Brugler, NFLDraftScout.com
