02/28/17 - QB Johnny Manziel promised a judge that his life is "trending upward" on Tuesday despite recently missing a deadline for updating his progress on meeting conditions regarding his domestic violence case.
Manziel was warned by Dallas judge Roberto Canas that a jury trial might decide his fate if a November deal is revoked due to Manziel failing to meet the conditions.
The plea deal required Manziel to undergo counseling and have his conduct monitored by prosecutors. If he meets the conditions for one year, misdemeanor charges that he hit and threatened former girlfriend Colleen Crowley on Jan. 29, 2016, will be dismissed.
The charge carried a penalty of up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
01/20/17 - QB Johnny Manziel says he is sober and determined to resume his career in the NFL.
Manziel told ESPN on Friday that he achieved sobriety without professional help and is focused on becoming a better person. The former member of the Cleveland Browns said he appreciates all the people who helped him "during the truly rough patches" in 2016.
12/02/16 - QB Johnny Manziel finalized a plea deal with prosecutors on his domestic violence case Friday. The Dallas County District Attorney's Office said Friday that Manziel must meet certain conditions for a year before the misdemeanor charge of hitting and threatening former girlfriend Colleen Crowley will be dismissed. The conditional agreement requires Manziel to undergo counseling and have his conduct monitored by prosecutors. Manziel would be prosecuted for the assault charge, which carries up to a year in jail, if he fails to meet the terms of the deal. "A conditional dismissal agreement is only the beginning of the process of educating an individual on how to make better choices when facing conflict," the Dallas County District Attorney's office said in a statement to USA Today.
11/29/16 - QB Johnny Manziel is being sued for up to $1 million in damages by a bartending assistant after allegedly breaking his nose on Sept. 6. Eric Newton filed a lawsuit against Manziel in Travis County, Texas on Monday, stemming from an incident at a private party. Manziel was irate after hearing negative comments about himself and charged Newton and punched him in the face and broke Newton's nose. Manziel reportedly fled out of a back exit.
11/17/16 - QB Johnny Manziel's domestic violence charges were dismissed in a Dallas courtoom Thursday after reaching an agreement with prosecutors. The judge indicated Manziel and former girlfriend Colleen Crowley had an "agreement in principle" to drop the charges. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Manziel's attorneys and prosecutors have two weeks to file court documents and finalize the agreement. The sides will reconvene Dec. 1. Manziel was indicted in April by a Dallas grand jury in connection with an alleged Jan. 29 incident with Crowley at a Dallas hotel.
